Fatty acid salts may be used in subterranean reservoirs for conformance control. For example, methods may include: introducing a fatty acid salt including a fatty acid and a metal cation including a transition metal or a lanthanide metal to a subterranean reservoir, wherein the subterranean reservoir includes oleaginous hydrocarbons; contacting the fatty acid salt with the oleaginous hydrocarbons, wherein the fatty acid salt and the oleaginous hydrocarbons form a precipitant; and recovering oleaginous hydrocarbons from the subterranean reservoir.

Enhanced oil recovery using fatty acid salts

A method of illuminating a pavement including mixing asphaltenes and a polymer in a solvent to form a solution. The method further includes coating the pavement with the solution and evaporating the solvent to form a coated pavement, followed by irradiating the coated pavement. Following the irradiation, the asphaltenes emit light, thereby illuminating the pavement. The asphaltenes are homogeneously dispersed in a polymer matrix in the coated pavement. The polymer has a formula (I) as follows,

A method of treating a carbonate formation includes introducing a stimulation fluid into the carbonate formation at a pressure greater than a fracture pressure of the formation and creating openings in the carbonate formation via the stimulation fluid. Then, a fluoride salt solution, optionally including a proppant, may be introduced into the carbonate formation such that it at least partially penetrates into the openings. The fluoride salt may then be reacted with a carbonate surface in the carbonate formation to form fluorite on a surface of the formation thereby increasing a hardness of the carbonate formation.

A method is described for determining the structure of a surfactant complex formed at an immiscible liquid-liquid interface. The surfactant complex forms and crystallizes at the interface between an aqueous phase comprising a divalent metal salt and a non-aqueous phase comprising an anionic surfactant. The non-aqueous phase may be in the form of a droplet surrounded by the aqueous phase. The structure of the surfactant complex is determined by X-ray crystallography.

Controlling crystallization at the interface between oil and brine

A method of increasing the strength of a carbonate rock is described. The carbonate rock may be located within a subterranean carbonate formation or may be located on a building exterior. The method involves contacting the carbonate rock with a composition comprising a zinc salt or a silicon alkoxide. This may increase the hardness of the carbonate rock by 10% or more.

Rock hardness for hydraulic fracturing and art preservation

A method is described for strengthening a carbonate formation rock within a subterranean formation. The method involves contacting the rock with a composition of Ca(OH)nanoparticles in an organic solvent, which results in a treated rock having a Young's modulus that is increased by at least 10%. The composition may optionally comprise a COsource.

Method of improving rock hardness in carbonate formations

A method of demulsifying an emulsion of oil and water whereby palm oil fuel ash, which is a low cost waster product obtained from oil palm processing, is added to the emulsion and the resulting mixture is agitated, thereby breaking the emulsion into an aqueous phase and an oil phase. Solid particles of palm oil fuel ash settle to the bottom of the aqueous phase, allowing easy separation of the oil phase, the aqueous phase, and the settled solid particles of palm oil fuel ash.
