A computing device and methods for tracking surgical imaging devices stores a preoperative image of patient tissue registered to a frame of reference of a tracking system; and receives, from a first imaging device, a first intraoperative image of a first region of the tissue, with a finer resolution than the preoperative image. The computing device receives a position of the first imaging device from the tracking system, and registers the first intraoperative image with the frame of reference. The computing device receives, from a second imaging device, a second intraoperative image of a second region of the patient tissue, with a finer resolution than the first intraoperative image. The computing device registers the second intraoperative image to the first intraoperative image; and controls a display to present the preoperative image overlaid with the first intraoperative image, and the first intraoperative image overlaid with the second intraoperative image.

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system and methods for use with a medical, e.g., a surgical, robotic system, involving an MRI apparatus configured to operate with the surgical robotic system, the MRI apparatus having at least one low-field magnet, the at least one low-field magnet configured to generate a low magnetic field, and the low magnetic field comprising a magnetic flux density in a range of approximately 0.1 Tesla (T) to approximately 0.5 T, whereby a standoff between the MRI apparatus and the surgical robotic system is reduced.

A method and system is provided for recording a health care event, optimizing medical procedures and calculating reimbursement. The method includes: acquiring metadata comprising a patient identifier, a practitioner identifier, a health care site identifier, an entry time and a medical reason for the health care event; receiving a reimbursement request; generating a procedures list based on the medical reason; selecting a procedure; generating a list of required data types and a list of required quality data for the procedure; acquiring raw data comprising the procedure, a medical device identifier, an entry time and one or more quality data from the medical device for the procedure; and calculating a reimbursement for the health care event based on the procedure, the medical device identifier, the required quality data and the quality data from the medical device. The method implements iterative learning using the collected data to determine optimal health care procedures.

A system for assisting a surgeon to perform an operation on a patient where surgeon employs a first surgical instrument that has a shaft and a tip. The system include a video capture device configured to capture real-time video data showing the first surgical instrument while the first surgical instrument is being used by the surgeon to perform the operation. The system also includes a display device and a computer processor. The computer processor is configured to receive real-time video data from the video capture device as a sequence of digital image frames and, for each image frame, analyze the image frame to determine the location in the image frame of the shaft of the first surgical instrument, process the image frame to overlay received overlay information on the shaft of the first surgical instrument as it appears in the image frame, and display the processed image frame on the display device.

Digitally enhanced surgical instruments

Radio frequency ('RF') coil assemblies for use in local magnetic resonance imaging ('MRI') of tissues in a subject or patient in an intraoperative setting are provided. One or more RF coils are coupled to an absorbent member. A connecting element is coupled to the RF coil(s) or the absorbent member. When connected to the RF coil(s), the connecting element includes a wired connector that communicates signals between the RF coil(s) and an RF controller. The RF coil assemblies can be made to be disposable.

A medical navigation system is provided for performing at least part of an assessment of a non-living body. The medical navigation system comprises a positioning device having a positioning arm with an end effector at the end of the positioning arm, an imaging device coupled to the end effector, and a controller electrically coupled to the positioning device and the imaging device. The controller has a processor coupled to a memory and a display. The controller is configured to generate a signal to move the positioning arm to position the imaging device through a range of motion to perform a scan of a surface of the body and receive and save as data in the memory signals generated by the imaging device during the range of motion.

Automated autopsy system

An apparatus is provided that is at least partially visible by both a three dimensional (3D) scanner system of a medical navigation system and a tracking system of the medical navigation system. The apparatus includes a rigid member, a plurality of identifiable features attached to the rigid member and visible by the tracking system, a distinct identifiable portion visible by the 3D scanner system, and a connector mechanism attached to the rigid member to connect the apparatus to a location. The apparatus is in a field of view of the 3D scanner system and the tracking system within a timeframe of the 3D scan.

The medical navigation system includes a computing device having a processor coupled to a memory, a wireless communication component and a display for displaying an image. The medical navigation system further includes a sensor module attached to a medical device. The sensor module includes a housing for housing components of the sensor module and for attaching to the medical device, a processor housed in the housing, a memory coupled to the processor, a wireless communication component coupled to the processor, a battery coupled to the processor, and a sensor coupled to the processor. The sensor generates a signal to be transmitted wirelessly via the sensor module wireless communication component and receivable by the computing device wireless communication component, the signal representing movement of the medical device.

A system and method is provided for managing one or more docking applications running on a wireless device. The method displays to a user at least one docking application while the wireless device is coupled to another device. The method comprising the steps of: executing a docking application control module when the wireless device is first coupled with the other device; retrieving user preferences associated with the docking application control module; executing, based on the retrieved user preferences, at least one docking application for use on the wireless device while the wireless device remains coupled to the other device; and terminating the docking application when the wireless device ceases to be coupled to the other device.

A method of facilitating the entry of text into a new message generated by a messaging application of a handheld electronic device is provided that includes receiving a command to reply to or forward a received message that is included within a message thread, scanning the message thread, identifying a plurality of words in the message thread, generating one or more word lists that include the identified words, and displaying the one or more word lists. The method further includes receiving a selection of a selected one of the words from the one or more word lists, and entering the selected one of the words into the new message.
