The invention relates to a marking composition, by means of which better protection of goods than hitherto available can be achieved independently of the coloring of the goods. The marking composition comprises an infrared-absorbing particulate component and carbon derivative, wherein the weight ratio of infrared-absorbing component to carbon derivative is in the range of approx. 10:1 to approx. 10,000:1.

The invention relates to a marking composition, by means of which better protection of goods than hitherto available can be achieved independently of the coloring of the goods. The marking composition comprises an infrared-absorbing particulate component and a carbon derivative, wherein the weight ratio of infrared-absorbing component to carbon derivative is in the range of approx. 10:1 to approx. 10,000:1.

An N-allyl carbamate compound which is suitable as an additive is proposed, the chemical main body thereof allowing modifications of the overall structure of the compound in order to ensure sufficiently high compatibility with as many binder systems as possible, wherein the UV-crosslinkable double bond is designed to be as sterically undemanding as possible, linked via flexible bonds, and highly reactive. In the N-allyl carbamate compound of general formula (A) according to the invention, the radical R1 is selected from straight-chain, branched, or cyclic substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals and heterocyclic radicals, wherein the radical R1 includes at least one ethylenically unsaturated bond, wherein R2, R3, and R4 are selected from hydrogen and hydrocarbon radicals, wherein R5 represents hydrogen or an allyl group, and wherein c is an integer of 1 or greater.

The present invention relates to surface-modified effect pigments based on flake-form substrates which are distinguished by the fact that they are sheathed with one or more layers of immobilised LCST and/or UCST polymers. The invention furthermore relates to a process for the production of the surface-modified effect pigments and to the use thereof in surface coatings, water-borne coatings, powder coatings, paints, printing inks, security printing inks, plastics, concrete, in cosmetic formulations, in agricultural sheeting and tarpaulins, for the laser marking of papers and plastics, as light protection, as pigment for corrosion protection and for the preparation of pigment compositions and dry preparations.

Effect pigments that are surface-modified with LCST and/or UCST polymers

A description is given of water-soluble aminoplast ether copolymers of the following structural type: wherein Z is a glycoluril central unit, B is a radical of an essentially water-insoluble polymer and R1 is a radical of a hydrophilic organic compound. The ratio R1:B is selected within a range of about 1.5 to 4:1 and the overall mass of the water-soluble aminoplast ether copolymer is from about 2000 to 50 000 g/mol such that the copolymer is soluble in water and may be used as a dispersant for e.g. pigments in polar solvents, e.g. water.

In order to provide a method by means of which the surface of substrates can be protected from corrosive attack and which, in particular, avoids the necessity for oxidative treatment to form oxide layers on surfaces or for phosphatizing or chromatizing treatment steps and is, in addition, simple to apply, it is proposed that the substrate be brought into contact with a solution of a polymer which exhibits UCST properties and which is caused to be deposited onto the surface of the substrate as a layer by decreasing the temperature of the polymer solution.

Method of treating the surface of substrates

In order to make it possible to treat particles in such a manner that they are stabilized as disperse particles in liquid media, such as varnishes, a method of coating particles with LCST polymers is proposed which is characterized by the following steps: a) dissolution of an LCST polymers in a solvent at a temperature below the LCST; b) mixing the solution obtained in step a) with the particles to be coated; and c) increasing the temperature of the mixture obtained in step b) to or beyond the point at which the LCST polymer deposits onto the particle surfaces.
