This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatuses for wireless communication. An example apparatus selects a resource unit (RU) for a physical (PHY) layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU). The selected RU includes a set of contiguous tones spanning a bandwidth. The apparatus maps the set of contiguous tones to a set of non-contiguous tones distributed across the frequency spectrum, and transmits the PPDU over the set of non-contiguous tones. Another example apparatus selects an RU of a group of RUs that collectively span a frequency spectrum, and formats a PPDU based on a first frequency bandwidth wider than the selected RU's bandwidth. The apparatus parses the contiguous tones of the selected RU to a set of non-contiguous tones spanning a unique segment of a second frequency bandwidth wider than the first frequency bandwidth, and schedules a transmission of the PPDU over the set of non-contiguous tones.

Distributed tone mapping for power spectral density (PSD) limits

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a wireless device may perform a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure for a narrowband communication that provides time and frequency synchronization and/or scheduling information for an ultra-wideband (UWB) communication. The wireless device may transmit the narrowband communication in response to the LBT procedure being successful. The wireless device may transmit the UWB communication based at least in part on the time and frequency synchronization and/or scheduling information. Numerous other aspects are described.

Narrowband communication for ultra-wideband communication

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for improving wireless communications in power spectral density (PSD)-limited frequency bands. A wireless communication device, having a number (N) of transmit antennas, parses a physical layer (PHY) protocol data unit (PPDU) into a number (N) of spatial streams and modulates the Nspatial streams on a number (M) of subcarriers. In some implementations, the wireless communication device may transmit the PPDU using a number (N) of the transmit antennas, where N≤N<N. In some other implementations, the wireless communication device may subdivide the M subcarriers into subcarrier groups and may transmit each subcarrier group using a respective subset of the Ntransmit antennas, where the number of transmit antennas used to transmit each subcarrier group is greater than or equal to the number of spatial streams modulated on the subcarriers in the group but less than N.

Antenna switching in frequency bands with power spectral density (PDS) limits

A user equipment (UE) includes a first communication component configured to use a first frequency band, such as ultra-wide band (UWB), and a second communication component configured to use an intermediate frequency (IF) band that overlaps with the UWB band, such as an IF millimeter wave (mmWave) band. The second communication component conducts an IF signal along an internal signal conduction line that may interfere with UWB processing. A processor of the UE is configured to detect an indication of such interference, and, in response to the indication of interference, control the second communication component to adjust a characteristic of the IF band signal to mitigate the interference, such as by reducing its signal strength. The amount by which the IF band signal strength is reduced may be controlled to achieve a desired tradeoff between various performance metrics, such as power consumption and quality of service.

Radio frequency coexistence mitigations within wireless user equipment handsets

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a node may receive a configuration associated with measuring an energy level of a first frequency channel of an unlicensed radio frequency band, wherein the configuration indicates a set of measurement occasions during which the energy level is to be measured on the first frequency channel; measure the energy level on the first frequency channel in a first measurement occasion, of the set of measurement occasions, according to the configuration; and operate in association with a second frequency channel of the unlicensed radio frequency band based at least in part on measuring the energy level on the first frequency channel, wherein the second frequency channel is paired with the first frequency channel for the unlicensed radio frequency band. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Detection of fixed service incumbents on an unlicensed radio frequency band

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for managing wireless local area network (WLAN) density. The WLAN density is managed to limit how many APs can utilize a first portion of a first frequency band in a geographical area. A limit of APs may be based on an estimated amount of interference that would be caused by the APs to an incumbent system that also uses the first portion of the frequency band. The WLAN density control may prevent the estimated amount of interference caused by APs in a geographical area from exceeding a threshold interference level based on the presence of the incumbent system. WLAN density control may involve the AP configuration of a first AP or may involve the density of client devices associated with one or more APs in the geographical area.

Wireless local area network (WLAN) density control

Systems, methods, and devices for wireless communication are provided. In one aspect, an apparatus for wireless communication is provided. The apparatus includes a processor configured to generate a packet for transmission via a wireless signal. The packet is generated for transmission over a bandwidth of 1 MHz using at least one orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol. The apparatus further includes a transmitter configured to transmit the packet via the wireless signal having unique power spectral density characteristics.

Systems and methods for wireless communication in sub gigahertz bands

A method and apparatus are disclosed for a wireless communication device capable of scanning for radar signals while detecting and/or receiving a wireless communication signal. The wireless communication device may include a plurality of local oscillator synthesizers to allow distinct frequency bands to be used for wireless communication signals and radar detection. In some embodiments, the wireless communication device may include a radar detection physical layer (PHY) circuit to detect the presence of radar signals within a received RF signal. The radar detection PHY may have limited functionality suitable primarily for radar signal analysis and not suitable for processing (decoding) communication signals.

Agile radar detection for wireless communications

Systems, methods, and devices to communicate in a white space are described herein. In some aspects, wireless communication transmitted in the white space authorizes an initial transmission by a device. The wireless communication may include power information for determining a power at which to transmit the initial transmission. The initial transmission may be used to request information identifying one or more channels in the white space available for transmitting data. In some aspects, a device for wireless communication is disclosed. The device may include a data interleaver with at least a first mode and a second mode. The modes may correspond to transmitting using either two or four channels of the white space.

Systems and methods for frequency interleaving for whitespace transmission

A system and method are disclosed that may allow a STA to selectively change frequency bands from an operating band to a candidate band based on operating conditions. In response to determining that a channel condition is within a band switch region associated with a candidate band, the STA may select the candidate band and temporarily switch to it. The STA may select an initial modulation and coding scheme for the candidate band and probe the candidate band with data to determine an estimate of candidate band goodput. If the estimate of candidate band goodput is greater than the operating band goodput, the STA may switch to the candidate band.

Cross-band rate adaption

One aspect disclosed is a method in a wireless communications system including a first primary channel having a first frequency spectrum bandwidth and a second primary channel having a second frequency spectrum bandwidth, wherein the second frequency spectrum bandwidth includes the first frequency spectrum bandwidth. The method includes performing a first and a second back-off procedure at least partially in parallel, the first back-off procedure based on whether the first primary channel is idle, and the second back-off procedure based on whether the second primary channel is idle, and transmitting a wireless message based on whether the first or the second back-off procedure completes first.

Methods and apparatus for clear channel assessment

Methods and systems disclosed provide for clear channel assessment of first and second communication channels. In one aspect, a first primary channel has a first frequency spectrum bandwidth and a second primary channel has a second frequency spectrum bandwidth including the first frequency spectrum bandwidth. A method may include performing a first back-off procedure based on whether the first primary channel is idle if a transmission bandwidth for a wireless message is the first frequency spectrum bandwidth, performing a second back-off procedure based on whether the second primary channel is idle if the transmission bandwidth for the wireless message is greater than the first frequency spectrum bandwidth, and transmitting the wireless message based on a completion of the performed back off procedure.

Systems and methods of performing communication via a sub-1 gigahertz wireless network are disclosed. Values of one or more inter-frame spacing parameters for use in communication via the sub-1 gigahertz wireless network are also defined. The parameters may include a short inter-frame spacing (SIFS) time of 160 microseconds (&#x3bc;s). The parameters may also include a clear channel assessment (CCA) time of 40 &#x3bc;s. Additional parameters, such as air propagation time are also defined (e.g., for inclusion into a standard, such as Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11ah).

Inter-frame spacing duration for sub-1 gigahertz wireless networks

Systems and methods of performing communication via television high throughput (TVHT) bandwidth channels are disclosed. Values of one or more physical layer parameters for use in communication via TVHT parameters are also defined. A short inter-frame spacing (SIFS) time is 120 microseconds (&#x3bc;s) for a 6 megahertz (MHz) or a 7 MHz bandwidth channel, and is 90 &#x3bc;s for an 8 MHz bandwidth channel. The parameters also include a clear channel assessment (CCA) time of 15 &#x3bc;s for a 6 MHz or 7 MHz bandwidth channel and 11.25 &#x3bc;s for an 8 MHz bandwidth channel. Additional parameters, such as compliance with a spectral flatness constraint, transmit center frequency tolerance, symbol clock frequency tolerance, transmitter center frequency leakage, transmitter constellation error, and non-HT duplicate transmission are also defined (e.g., for inclusion into a standard, such as Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11af).
