A fuel injection valve includes a housing having a wall surface on an opposite side of the nozzle hole. A fuel passage opens in the wall surface, and communicates with a nozzle hole through a nozzle cavity. The nozzle cavity accommodates a valve element. A cylinder is substantially in contact with the wall surface at one end, and slidably accommodating one end of the valve element. The cylinder partitions the nozzle cavity substantially into a fuel accumulator chamber and a pressure control chamber. The fuel accumulator chamber accumulates fuel supplied from the fuel passage. The pressure control chamber accumulates fuel for manipulating the valve element. The cylinder has an outer wall defining a deflecting surface for radially outwardly deflecting fuel flowing from the fuel passage.

Fuel injection valve

A fuel injector is provided which has an improved structure capable of adjusting fuel jet characteristics such as the quantity of fuel to be injected to an engine and a fuel injection time lag after the fuel injector is assembled. The fuel injector includes an air gap adjusting screw and a spring pressure adjusting screw. The air gap adjusting screw serves to change an air gap between a stator and an armature of a solenoid valve to adjust the quantity of fuel to a target one. The spring pressure adjusting screw serves to change a spring pressure urging a valve in a spray hole-closing direction to regulate a spray hole open duration, thereby adjusting the fuel injection time lag or the quantity of fuel.

Structure of fuel injector adjustable in fuel jet characteristic

An accumulator fuel injection apparatus for an internal combustion engine is provided which includes a solenoid-operated fuel injector. The fuel injector includes a solenoid valve and a needle valve. The solenoid valve establishes and blocks fluid communication between a pressure control chamber supplied with fuel pressure from a fuel inlet and a drain passage formed in a valve body to change fuel pressure within the pressure control chamber, thereby bringing the needle valve into engagement with and disengagement from a spray hole. The fuel injector also has a first orifice disc and a second orifice disc installed within the valve body. The first orifice disc has formed therein a first orifice which provides a first flow resistance to fuel flowing from the fuel inlet into the pressure control chamber. Similarly, the second orifice disc has formed therein a second orifice which provides a second flow resistance smaller than the first flow resistance to the fuel flowing out of the pressure control chamber into the drain passage. The second orifice disc is disposed on the first orifice disc so that thicknesswise directions thereof coincide with each other.

Accumulator fuel injection apparatus for internal combustion engine

An accumulator fuel injection system for a diesel engine is provided which is designed to facilitates easy maintenance of an injector and may be used in different types of engines. The accumulator fuel injection system includes generally an injector, a solenoid valve for controlling injection timing, a connector supplying the power to the solenoid valve, a fuel supply pipe connection, and a fuel supply passage. The injector is installed in the engine to have an injector head disposed outside an engine head cover. The solenoid valve is disposed within the injector head eccentrically with the longitudinal center line of the injector. The connector is mounted on the injector head. The fuel supply connection is arranged opposite the injection nozzle across camshafts of exhaust and intake valves of the engine. The fuel supply passage is formed in a side wall of the injector head of said injector.

Fuel injection system for engine

It is the primary object of the present invention to provide a catalyst converter which can hold a sufficient amount of catalyst to raise the temperature thereof to the catalyst activation temperature in a short time without enlarging the metal carrier itself. The metal carrier 1 is arranged in the course of an exhaust manifold 3 of an engine 2 and is composed of an alternating winding of a flat sheet 7 and a corrugated sheet 8, wherein slit parts 9 are formed in the flat sheet 7 and the corrugated sheet 8 of the metal carrier 1 in an end portion thereof, on the side the engine 2.

Metal carrier

In a metal catalyst converter configured of the metal catalyst carrier that holds the catalyst into the honeycomb body created by alternately winding flat sheet and corrugated sheet, a plurality of slit matrix that extend in the direction perpendicular to the exhaust gas direction were arranged on at least one part of the upstream side of the exhaust gas passage. By that a low heat capacity and high heat transfer area in regard to the downstream side of the exhaust gas passage was formed. The upstream portion of the metal catalyst converter on which slit matrix was formed was configured to be covered by outer casing having an air insulation layer. The upstream side of this outer casing was held and fixed to the exhaust gas passage.

Honeycomb body and catalyst converter having catalyst carrier configured

A self-heat generating type honeycomb filter is mounted in an exhaust pipe line of an engine, and a plane plate and a corrugated plate are layered, then wound, and the first slit portion and second slit portion having openings, respectively, are formed between an up-stream and down stream side end portions of the plane and corrugated plates. An electric current is applied between the up-stream and down stream side end portions, to heat the first and second slit portions. Accordingly, a self-heat generation type catalytic converter capable of realizing both high resistance and low thermal capacity, and further ensuring a reduction in thermal conduction, and durability, and raising the temperature up to the sufficient level with less power consumption, can be provided.

A fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine, wherein a spill valve device operated by a piezoelectric unit is provided for carrying out a pressure pump spill operation when a fuel injection stroke is completed. The spill valve device includes a operating chamber connected to a sealed chamber of the piezoelectric unit, the sealed chamber being connected to a fuel supplementing passageway which is connected to a fuel passageway connecting a fuel tank with a fuel intake port of the pressure pump. The pressure pump is further provided with a spill passageway for discharging pressurized fuel in the pressure chamber via the fuel passageway. A check valve is provided in the fuel passageway to prevent a flow of the spilled fuel to the sealed chamber of the piezoelectric unit.
