A blank feeder for feeding blanks. It has a feed table on which a plurality of blanks are stacked, a suction unit provided under the table to suck the lowermost one of the stack downward, a motor-driven first feed rolls mounted in the suction unit and adapted to feed the lowermost blank in contact therewith, and second feed rolls located downstream of the first feed rolls and adapted to be driven at a constant speed. The first feed rolls are accelerated from zero speed to the speed of the second feed rolls before the front end of the blank reaches the second rolls, then driven synchronized with the second feed rolls, and decelerated to zero speed again by the time the next cycle begins. A kicker for pushing out the blank may be provided. The kicker is moved forward so as to be synchronized with the second feed rolls before the front end of the blank reaches the second feed rolls. Once synchronized, this state is maintained until the rear end of the blank gets off from the kicker.

Blank feeder and method for controlling the same

An apparatus for feeding boards, said apparatus being provided with reversing arm means 23 which comprises a table 21 and a conveyance surface 22, said conveyance surface making an obtuse angle with said table, and fork means 33 capable of pivoting edge resting boards on the conveyance surface from a backwardly inclined posture to a forwardly inclined posture.

Apparatus for feeding boards

A device for detecting any defects in single faced corrugated fiberboard while it is running. A light is irradiated to the corrugated surface of the fiberboard and the striped image is scanned by an image pick-up unit and the picture signal is converted to binary-coded signal to discriminate the number of stripes or corrugations. The number is counted by a counter and compared with a normal number by a microcoputer. If there is too large a difference between them, the scanned part is judged as defective. This device can detect any defects in a running web at a sufficiently high speed to follow the line speed of a corrugating machine.

Device for detecting defects in single faced corrugated fiberboards

An improved rotary cutter for a web material is proposed. It has a pair of rolls adapted to rotate synchronously in opposite directions and an axially elongated knife secured to each roll to extend axially. A plurality of rolling bodies are arranged around each roll to bear the shock upon cutting. Different means for preventing the knives from hitting the rolling bodies are proposed. This arrangement prevents the rolls from warping due to shock upon cutting and allows the use of rolls having a smaller diameter.

Rotary cutter

A device for positioning tools such as slitters and scorers used with a corrugating machine is proposed. As a pair of rotary shafts rotate, tool heads mounted thereon and each carrying a tool rotate, so that the tools work the web of corrugated fiberboard fed between them as required. When a transfer unit is operated with the tool head supporting plate coupled with the position adjusting member carrying a tool head, they move together axially along the rotary shafts, so that a pair of the tools will be moved simultaneously to a desired position.

An apparatus for automatically mounting rolls of a web material on a mill roll stand first moves a web roll on a roller conveyor in an axial direction and then in a lateral direction toward roll supports. The web roll is then automatically aligned with the roll supports by moving it vertically or turning the roll supports.

A color printing machine having a plurality of printing units includes a plate cylinder and an impression cylinder. A web length adjusting unit is arranged between each pair of adjacent printing units so as to adjust the length of web existing between the printing units to be equal to the printing length multiplied by an integer.

An improved die cutting apparatus separates the gripper margin from the product portion and the releases the gripper margin from the gripper at the same station, i.e. at a pair of rolls. Further, the gripper margin is re-held and re-released at the pair of the rolls to prevent the gripper margins from becoming up with the product portions.

An improved printing apparatus has printing units, a pair of feed rolls, a pair of pull rolls, a speed adjusting unit having a pair of rolls, and a control unit. The speed adjusting unit reciprocates linearly to advance and retreat the web in the printing units. While the web is being printed, the feed and pull rolls are stopped. While it is not being printed, they are driven to feed the web for a distance equal to one printing length. The speed adjusting unit is driven so as to move at a speed equal to half the peripheral speed of the plate cylinder while the web is being printed.

An apparatus for automatically mounting rolls of a web material on a mill roll stand first moves a web roll on a roller conveyor then in an axial direction and next in a lateral direction toward roll then automatically supports. The web roll is aligned with the roll supports by moving it vertically or turning the roll supports.

A device for replacing plate cylinders for a color rotary press is proposed which includes suspending units having a bearing adapted to support one end of the shaft of a plate cylinder and to be movable in a vertical direction, and travellers for moving the suspending units in a horizontal direction, and elevator conveyors having bearings secured to a chain to support one end of the shaft of the plate cylinder and move the latter up and down.

Tools to be positioned all at once are moved from a stand-by reach toward a positioning reach by means of a rotatable shaft, and respectively positioned at their desired positions in the positioning reach after passing an origin located at a border line between the stand-by and positioning reaches. Central computer controls count pulse signals transmitted from a pulse generator synchronously rotated by the rotatable shaft, and compensate set values for the desired positions for the distance over which each tool has been moved in the stand-by reach.

A control system for a blank presser used to touch down blanks fed from a conveyor controls the blank presser so as to hold down each of the blanks at the proper time, so as to thereby prevent them from scattering or jamming up. The control system can control the blank presser automatically even if the speed or length of the blanks changes.

An improved printing apparatus for printing a running web is proposed which includes printing units each having a plate cylinder adapted to carry two plates, a pair of impression cylinders mounted in diametrically opposite directions, and adjust rolls for guiding the web so that the length of web existing between two contact points will be three or more odd number of times as long as the printing length. The plate cylinder or the web is controlled so that during the printing, the peripheral speed of the plate cylinder will be equal to the web speed, and from the print end to the next print start, the plate cylinder will move for a distance equal to the gap between the two plates.

An improved process and apparatus for splicing a new web to a running web are proposed. The old web is cut off just behind the spliced point. Therefore, no tail is left on the web spliced. The running web is nipped at two points between two pairs of rolls. Because it is tight between the two points, a clear cut is possible with a single cutting blade.
