A motorcycle has a video camera attached thereto in such a manner as to shoot sharp images. A motorcycle includes a camera adapted to shoot a road surface. The camera is arranged below an engine or a swing arm and more rearward than the center of a crankshaft of the engine. The swing arm pivotally supports a rear wheel with a rear edge portion thereof. The camera is fastened to, and supported either by a lower portion of the engine or by a lower portion of a vehicle body frame connected to the engine.

A vehicle speed calculator includes a vehicle speed calculation unit for calculating a vehicle speed from a traveled distance per unit time of a feature point in a captured image shot by a camera for capturing a road surface, a reference distance mark irradiation unit and an image reference distance detection unit. The reference distance mark irradiation unit irradiates a reference distance mark to the road surface in parallel with an optical axis of the camera. The reference distance mark is formed in such a manner as to have a reference distance in a longitudinal direction of a motorcycle. The image reference distance detection unit detects an image reference distance, the longitudinal length of the reference distance mark in the shot image. The vehicle speed calculation unit calculates the vehicle speed from the traveled distance using the image reference distance and the reference distance.

A control system for an internal combustion engine with an automatic transmission having a torque converter, and a lock-up device. When gear shifting of the automatic transmission is carried out, the output torque of the engine is increased so as to reduce a shock caused by the gear shifting. The engaging force of the lock-up device is changed in response to the increase of the output torque.

An automatic transmission of an automotive vehicle is set into a neutral position in response to a command instructing gear shifting of the automatic transmission when release of an accelerator pedal of the vehicle is detected. The automatic transmission has a plurality of speed clutches. The opening of a throttle valve arranged in an intake passage of an internal combustion engine installed on the vehicle is controlled such that the rotational speed of an input side of one of the speed clutches to be selected for the gear shifting and the rotational speed of the one of the speed clutches becomes substantially equal to each other when the automatic transmission is held in the neutral position. The one of the speed clutches is engaged upon detection that the rotational speed of the input side thereof and the rotational speed of the output side thereof becomes substantially equal to each other.

An upshift of an automatic transmission of an automotive vehicle is carried out when a sudden decrease in a stepping-on amount of an accelerator pedal of the vehicle is detected. The opening of a throttle valve arranged in an intake passage of an internal combustion engine installed on the vehicle is closed when the stepping-on amount of the accelerator has increased during the upshift after the sudden decrease in the stepping-on amount. Engagement of one of speed clutches of the automatic transmission to be selected for the upshift is started upon the closing of the throttle valve. Control of the opening of the throttle valve in response to the stepping-on amount of the accelerator pedal is started after the rotational speed of the output side of the one of the speed clutches and the rotational speed of the input side of the same become substantially equal to each other through the engagement of the one of the speed clutches.

A throttle valve control system for an internal combustion engine installed in a vehicle. A throttle valve opening sensor detects an actual opening of a throttle valve, and an ECU calculates a desired opening of the throttle valve according to the rotational speed of the engine and the required torque of the engine, which is calculated according to operating conditions of the engine and operating conditions of the vehicle, and electrically controls the throttle valve such that the detected actual opening of the throttle valve becomes equal to the desired opening of the throttle valve. An intake pressure sensor detects actual intake pressure within the intake passage, and desired intake pressure within the intake passage is calculated according to the rotational speed of the engine and the required torque of the engine. The desired intake pressure is compared with the detected actual intake pressure, and the desired opening of the throttle valve is corrected based on results of the comparison.

A driving wheel slip control system for a vehicle equipped with an internal combustion engine capable of changing the valve lift characteristic of inlet and/or exhaust valves thereof. An output from the engine is decreased in response to a detected magnitude of slip of at least one of the driving wheels. An engine output decrement is changed in response to the changed valve lift characteristic.
