Compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a higher alkyl group which may be substituted; R.sup.2 is a hydrogen, a lower alkyl group which may be substituted, a lower alkanoyl group which may be substituted or a lower alkylthiocarbamoyl group; R.sup.3 is a primary to tertiary amino group or a quaternary ammonium group; and n is 2 or 3, and salts thereof, have antitumor activity and platelet activating factor inhibitory activity.

Glycerol derivatives, their production and use

Phospholipid derivatives of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a higher alkyl, acylmethyl or alkylcarbamoyl group which may be substituted by cycloalkyl; R.sup.2 is a lower alkyl which may be substituted by carboxy, formyl or lower acyl, a carbamoyl or thiocarbamoyl group which is substituted by lower alkyl, or an acetoacetyl group; R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl, or ##STR2## represents a cyclic ammonio group; and n represents an integer of 8 to 14, and salts thereof have antitumor activity.

Phospholipid derivatives

A compound provided by the present invention, of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is C.sub.14-20 alkyl; R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are independently hydrogen or C.sub.1-5 alkyl, or ##STR2## represents a cyclic ammonio group; and A is C.sub.2-5 alkylene, and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, are useful as a anti-tumor agent.

2-Alkanoyloxy-3-(N-octadecylcarbamoyloxy)propyl trimethylammonioethyl phosphates and a salt thereof exhibit inhibitory activity against multiplication of tumor cells, and are useful as an antitumor agent.

2-alkanoyloxy-3-(N-octadecylcarbamoyloxy)propyl 2-trimethylaminoethyl

A compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein m is an integer of 11 to 22; R.sub.1 is alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 is hydrogen, alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or carboxylic acyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms. Such compounds have pharmaceutical activities such as hypotensive, tissue metabolism stimulating, immuno-regulatory and lysosomal membrane stabilizing activity, and inhibit SRS-A production, and are useful as a heart failure remedy, cerebral circulation disturbance remedy, immuno-regulator, and antiallergic drug.

Quinone derivatives

Novel compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is lower alkyl; R.sup.2 is hydrogen or lower alkyl, which are produced by reacting a compound of the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sup.3 is hydrocarbon residue, with a compound of the formula: ##STR3## The novel compounds have antiviral and antibacterial activity, and are useful to prolong the life span of tumor-bearing warm-blooded animals.

Hexahydrodioxopyrimidines, their production and use

A compound of the general formula ##STR1## wherein n is an integer of 10 to 21, inclusive; R is H or lower alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms has pharmaceutical activities such as hypotensive, tissue metabolism stimulating, immuno-regulatory, lysosomal membrane stabilizing and SRS-A production inhibitory activities and is useful as a heart failure remedy, cerebral circulation disturbance remedy, immuno-regulator, and antiallergic drug.

Quinone carboxylic acids and ester derivatives

Dehydroxylation of aminoglycoside antibiotics is carried out by halogenation of phosphorylated aminoglycoside antibiotics followed by reduction of thus halogenated antibiotics. The dehydroxylation process is entirely new and gives the final product in a high yield. The resulting deoxyaminoglycoside antibiotics are effective against microorganisms including aminoglycoside antiobiotics-resistant microorganisms.

Dehydroxylation of aminosugars

Deoxyaminoglycoside antibiotics are prepared in a high yield from phosphorylated aminoglycosides by reacting a phosphorylated aminoglycoside (a) with a silylating agent, or (b) successively with (i) a silylating or acylating agent and (ii) a halogenating agent; then subjecting thus obtained intermediate to reduction. Deoxyaminoglycoside antibiotics are useful for treating infections caused by microorganisms which are resistant or non-resistant to the corresponding aminoglycoside antibiotics.
