An operating object extraction apparatus uses a camera, a light, a memory, an operation panel, a hand detector, a capture controller, and an image controller for displaying an operating object such as an operating finger of an operator's hand, when the operating object extraction apparatus is used in combination with a navigation apparatus in a vehicle for remotely controlling the navigation apparatus by an input from the operation panel that that is disposed separately from the navigation apparatus. The operating finger of the operator's hand is displayed as a finger image on the display unit under control of the capture controller and the image controller in a manner that a finger tip of the operating finger occupies only a small portion relative to the size of the operation panel.

Apparatus for extracting operating object and apparatus for projecting operating hand

A navigation apparatus carries out a diagnosing process for vehicle behavior, for example, whether sudden accelerating operation or sudden braking operation has been done, wherein the diagnosing process is carried out based on vehicle acceleration. It is necessary to accurately calculate the vehicle acceleration in order to perform a reliable diagnosing process. The navigation apparatus calculates a difference between a first vehicle acceleration defined by an output from an acceleration sensor and a second vehicle acceleration calculated based on a vehicle speed and vehicle angular speed. The navigation apparatus carries out the diagnosing process, for example, when the above difference between the first and second vehicle accelerations is less than a predetermined value.

An input operation system for use in a vehicle has a protruding marking on a surface of a touch panel, and displays a composite image generated by superposing an outline of user's finger on a switch operation screen. The composite image of the switch operation screen is backed by an image of the protruding marking on the surface of the touch panel, and the user's finger receives a tactile feedback from the protruding marking on the surface of the touch panel to cause sensations of an intuitive positioning in the switch operation screen for controlling a menu item that is displayed on a display unit for an input operation of vehicular devices.

When it is determined that a head light is turned on, the sunset time is calculated. Thus, the frequency of calculating the sunset time is significantly decreased as compared with that of continuously calculating the sunset time, thereby reducing the processing load. Further, as compared with the case where the sunset time is calculated regardless of the time of lighting on, the calculated sunset time can evaluate the time of lighting on appropriately.

A driving diagnosis apparatus temporarily records a diagnosis result of the user before changed when a user is switched, and starts to diagnose the user after changed. Accordingly, since driving status of each user is independently diagnosed, the diagnosis result is proper. Further, when a driving distance of the vehicle is smaller than a threshold, the diagnosis result of a driving interval is not recorded so that the driving interval is removed from an object of giving a point. Influence to environment is also considered in evaluation of the driving status. Accordingly, in the driving diagnosis apparatus and a driving diagnosis system for diagnosing driving status and for evaluating a driver based on the diagnosis result, the diagnosis and the evaluation are properly performed.

An on-vehicle manipulating system includes a manipulating device having a housing, a first side pushbutton switch disposed at one side of the housing, a second side pushbutton switch disposed at the other side of the housing and an additional switch disposed at a prescribed portion of the housing and a control unit for setting a first function to one of the first and second pushbutton switches and a second function to the other pushbutton switch. In this manipulating system, the control unit changes the function of the first or second side pushbutton switch from the first function such as an ENTER key to the second function, such as a RETURN key, and the function of the other pushbutton switch, such as a MENU key, from the second function to the first function when one of the pushbutton switches being set to change the function is operated subsequent to the other pushbutton switch that has been set the second function is operated in a prescribed period after the additional switch is operated.

On-vehicle manipulating system

A pointer operation apparatus having a reaction force to a user operation changes an intensity of the reaction force according to respective users and/or user's conditions by using an operation unit, a force applicator, and other units. The intensity of the reaction force is determined by the pointer operation apparatus based on a relationship between a position of a pointer on a display unit and the reaction force applied to the operation unit, and the force applicator is controlled according to the relationship and the pointer position by the pointer operation apparatus. The relationship is changed based on a history of a pointer position movement (e.g., a speed/path of a pointer movement) recorded by the pointer operation apparatus.

A vehicle parking assisting system detects an obstacle by sonar devices, and displays it as a present detection position and a past detection point on a display device in an overlapping manner with a combined birds-eye view image. The present detection point is displayed as a series of dots extending from a predetermined position in a fan-shaped detection area in an arcuate shape along a detection area of the sonar devices, and the past detection point is displayed as a single dot located at the predetermined position in the fan-shaped detection area.
