According to one embodiment, a perpendicular magnetic recording head includes a main magnetic pole having a trailing side and two lateral sides, a magnetic shield near the trailing side and both lateral sides of the main magnetic pole, the magnetic shield comprising: a first soft magnetic film with a relatively high saturation flux density positioned facing depthwise from a floating surface side thereof, a second soft magnetic film with a relatively low saturation flux density, and a first non-magnetic film. The head also includes a non-magnetic film interposed between the magnetic shield and the main magnetic pole, a first magnetic film magnetically coupled to the magnetic shield and the main magnetic pole on a side opposite a floating surface side thereof, and a coil surrounding a magnetic circuit, the magnetic circuit comprising the main magnetic pole and the first magnetic film. Other systems and methods are also described.

Perpendicular magnetic recording head having a non-magnetic film recessed from the air bearing surface for improved high-density magnetic recording

According to one embodiment, a magnetic head for perpendicular recording includes a main pole, a first soft magnetic film disposed on a trailing side of the main pole, and a first nonmagnetic film interposed between the main pole and the first soft magnetic film. A thickness of the main pole is increased in a depth direction from an air bearing surface using an inclination, and a thickness of the first nonmagnetic film increases in the depth direction from the air bearing surface. In another embodiment, an angle from a horizontal plane of an upper surface of the first nonmagnetic film is greater than an angle from a horizontal plane of a lower surface of the first nonmagnetic film in contact with the main pole. Other heads, methods, and systems are described according to more embodiments.

Magnetic head for perpendicular recording

A perpendicular magnetic recording head according to one embodiment includes a main pole; first magnetic films arranged on both sides of the main pole in a track width direction via nonmagnetic films; and a second magnetic film arranged on a trailing side of the main pole via a nonmagnetic film; wherein the depths of the first magnetic films from an air bearing surface are smaller than the depth of the second magnetic film from the air bearing surface at least at a periphery of the main pole. A perpendicular magnetic recording head according to another embodiment includes a main pole; first magnetic films arranged on both sides of the main pole in a track width direction via nonmagnetic films; and a second magnetic film arranged on a trailing side of the main pole via a nonmagnetic film; wherein the main pole and the first magnetic films have respective tapered portions whose thicknesses become larger toward the side opposite to an air bearing surface, and the tapered portions are in contact with the second magnetic film. Perpendicular magnetic recording head having a main pole and first and second magnetic films peripheral to the main pole and having different depths from an air bearing surface

At least one of lower and upper magnetic cores is composed of magnetic films each of which contains two or more elements of Co, Ni, and Fe, which are formed by electroplating in a plating bath with pH 2 or less, and which have a saturation magnetic flux density of 23,000 gauss or more.

Magnetic head and method for production therefor

Disclosed is a magnetic disk apparatus including a magnetic reproducing head portion, and a magnetic recording head including an upper magnetic core having a end portion and a rear portion. As a resist for a frame which is used for forming the rear portion, a negative resist or an electron beam resist is used, whereby the frame is formed without any adverse effect of halation from a coil insulating film. That is, it is possible to manufacture a magnetic recording head in which the rear portion of an upper magnetic core is not emerged at the face opposed to a medium, and hence to obtain a magnetic disk apparatus exhibiting an areal recording density of 5 Gbit/inor more by mounting a magnetic recording/reproducing head including such a magnetic recording head.

The present invention is to provide a thin film magnetic head intended to increase precision of and to narrow a width which determines a track width of a write thin film magnetic head and to supply a stably high output substantially free from write blurring on a disk, and a method for manufacturing the same. The thin film magnetic head consisting of a magnetic circuit comprising a read head to read information, a lower magnetic film, a magnetic gap and an upper magnetic film formed with a magnetic gap between it and the lower magnetic film; and of a write head comprising a coil positioned between the upper magnetic film and the lower magnetic film and an insulating film for insulting the coil and the upper magnetic film from each other, wherein the upper magnetic film is configured of an upper first magnetic film, an upper second magnetic film and an upper third magnetic film, and the upper first magnetic film is connected to the upper third magnetic film via the upper second magnetic film.

Thin film magnetic head having multiple layered films determining track width imbedded in an insulating film and method of manufacturing the same

A magnetic disk apparatus includes a magnetic reproducing head portion, and a magnetic recording head including a lower magnetic core and an upper magnetic core having a end portion and a rear portion. The rear portion is formed using a negative resist or an electron beam resist to form a frame for plating above the end portion of the upper magnetic core head.

Manufacturing method of a thin film magnetic head

A thin film magnetic head comprising a sintered ceramic substrate, an underlayer, a bottom magnetic core film, a magnetic gap film, an insulating film containing coil windings, a top magnetic core film, and a protective layer. The substrate and other films and layers form an air bearing surface. The under layer, the magnetic gap film and the protective layer comprise Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, and the bottom and the top magnetic core films comprise Ni--Fe alloy. This structure gives substantially the same etching rate, when the air bearing surface is polished using a working fluid of pH 6-8, for any of the substrate, the films comprising Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and metal oxide described above, and the films of Ni--Fe alloy. Thus, steps (pole top recessions) on the air bearing surface can be made as small as 0.015 .mu.m or less. Accordingly, the magnetic head can be held in a stable attitude, thus obtaining good recording characteristics.

Thin film magnetic head and production method thereof and magnetic disk

A thin film magnetic head comprising a substrate on which are successively formed a base layer, a lower magnetic film, a gap layer, an insulator layer, a conductor coil, an upper magnetic film, and a first mask, is manufactured by a method in which one or more of a gas which can be expressed by the general formula of CnHxFy (where n.gtoreq.1, x+y=2n+2, x&gt;0, y&gt;0, and x.gtoreq.y); and a gas which can be expressed by the general formula of CnHxFy (where n.gtoreq.1, x+y=2n+2, x.gtoreq.0, y.gtoreq.0, and x&lt;y) is used. The structure of the magnetic head thus obtained is such that, at a height near the interface between the mask and the upper magnetic film provided therebelow, the angle defined by the side edge surfaces of the mask and the above-mentioned interface ranges from 75.degree. to 90.degree..
