A lubricant holding portion capable of holding the lubricant is formed between the facing portion of the extended projection of the selected gear and the facing portion of the extended projection of the housing.

A detecting unit for detecting a torque applied to a rotor according to rotation of the rotor having an input shaft and an output shaft connected with each other by a torsion bar and a detection circuit board connected with the detecting unit are molded with synthetic resin material to form a mold member. The installation of the mold member into a housing, which has a cylinder portion to surround the rotor and a retainer having an opening formed at the peripheral wall of the cylinder portion, is achieved by inserting the mold member into the retainer from the radial direction through the opening of the retainer.

A vehicular steering apparatus includes a column bracket secured to a steering column; and a fixing bracket secured to a vehicle body. The column bracket includes a top plate and a pair of side plates. The fixing bracket supports the column bracket via a support shaft. A support-shaft through hole formed in each of the side plates of the column bracket includes a slot extended along a longitudinal direction of the steering column. A resilient member is interposed between the top plate of the column bracket and a confronting portion of the support shaft. The resilient member biases the support shaft along a predetermined biasing direction to restrict play of the support shaft in the slot.

A first ball circulating hole and a second ball circulating hole for connecting a circulator are bored midway at a screw groove formed on an inner circumference of a ball nut, an intermediate groove path between the first and second ball circulating holes becomes the range of a ball screw track for circulating balls, and other ranges become a first outer track and a second outer track which are not the ball screw track. By making the groove depth of the intermediate groove path deeper than the groove depth of a first groove path of the first outer track and the groove depth of a second groove path of the second outer track, steps are formed between the ball screw track and the two outer tracks. These steps prevent an outflow of the balls from the intermediate groove path to the respective groove paths of the outer tracks.

Ball screw mechanism for electric power steering apparatus

An electric power steering apparatus for converting rotation of a steering assist motor into movement of a steering shaft in the axial direction thereof in accordance with steering operation using a ball screw mechanism wherein a female thread groove formed around an inner circumference of a rotating cylinder rotated around the axis thereof by the motor and a male thread groove formed around an outer circumference of the steering shaft are screwed with each other via a plurality of balls. The portions, where the both thread grooves contact with the balls, are formed in a circular arc shape, respectively, and the curvature of the female thread groove is made smaller than that of the male thread groove. Hence, the ball screw mechanism wherein skew occurrence between the ball and both the thread grooves is prevented and the dimensional errors of both the thread groove are decreased is realized.

Electric power steering apparatus

An electric power steering apparatus comprises an electric motor for producing a steering assist force, and a speed reduction mechanism for decelerating the rotation of an output shaft in the electric motor. The speed reduction mechanism comprises an input pulley driven by the electric motor, an output pulley connected to a steering shaft, and a belt for connecting the input pulley and the output pulley to each other. The belt comprises a helical toothed belt. The input pulley and the output pulley respectively include helical toothed pulleys meshed with the helical toothed belt.

A nut member which is rotated by power transmission from a motor in a rack housing is supported by a thrust bearing fitted and fixed in a first housing having an integrally formed fixing section for fastening to a vehicle body so that the nut member cannot move in both directions along an axial direction. Thrust loads applied in both directions to the nut member with the conversion of rotation into movement of a steering shaft in an axial direction are carried by the first housing through the thrust bearing. The structure of the connection section of the first housing and second housing is simplified, and the housing is fixed in a stable manner to prevent deterioration in steering feeling.

Steering apparatus for vehicle

An electric power steering apparatus comprises: a pinion provided on a shaft co-rotatable with a steering member; a steering shaft including a rack meshed with the pinion, the steering shaft being movable in an axial direction thereof; a steering shaft guiding device; and a motion converting mechanism. The steering shaft guiding device guides the steering shaft for axial movement, and biases the steering shaft toward the pinion. The motion converting mechanism includes a rotary cylinder surrounding the steering shaft and driven by a steering assist electric motor, and converts rotation of the rotary cylinder into the axial movement of the steering shaft. The steering shaft is supported by the rotary cylinder, the pinion and a guide. The pinion is located between the rotary cylinder and the guide axially of the steering shaft.

An electric power steering apparatus comprises a rack shaft movable in the axial direction. The rack shaft is meshed with a pinion rotated in response to the operation of a steering member. The rotation of the output shaft in an electric motor is decelerated by first and second gears which are meshed with each other. A motion conversion mechanism for converting the rotation of the second gear into the axial movement of the rack shaft comprises a rotating cylinder rotated in synchronization with the second gear and a screw shaft. The screw shaft is integrally provided coaxially with the rack shaft and is screwed into the rotating cylinder through a rolling member. A screw groove in the screw shaft and the teeth in the first gear are twisted in the same direction.

An electric power steering apparatus comprises a speed reduction mechanism for decelerating the rotation of an output shaft in an electric motor for steering assist. The speed reduction mechanism comprises a driving gear connected to the output shaft in the electric motor and a driven gear meshed with the driving gear. One of respective tooth sections in the driving gear and the driven gear includes a tooth section formed of a material having a relatively low hardness, and the other tooth section includes a tooth section formed of a material having a relatively high hardness. The profile of the tooth section formed of the material having a relatively low hardness is shifted in the direction in which the thickness at the root of the teeth of the tooth section is increased. The profile of the tooth section formed of the material having a relatively high hardness is shifted in the direction in which the thickness at the root of the teeth of the tooth section is decreased.
