A gas sensor element with suppressed response deterioration even when poisoned with S when fuel or exhaust gas contains ethanol and the ethanol content is high. The element includes a detection portion, which includes a solid electrolyte layer having a pair of electrodes on opposite sides thereof, a shielding layer defining a measurement target gas space with a porous diffusive resistance layer, and a reference gas space protective layer; a heat-generating portion stacked on the detection portion; and a porous protective layer surrounding the detection portion and heat-generating portion. The porous protective layer includes a first porous protective layer surrounding at least the porous diffusive resistance layer, and a second porous protective layer surrounding the first porous protective layer, the detection portion and the heat-generating portion. The first porous protective layer contains none of La, Ca, or Mg, while the second porous protective layer contains at least one of them.

Gas sensor element

To provide an SOx concentration detection device that can detect the SOx concentration in exhaust gas without using a dedicated sensor. As shown in FIG., the current value that flows when a voltage in the limiting current region is applied stays at a constant value (limiting current value) regardless of the elapsed time. On the other hand, the current value that flows when a voltage in the overcurrent region is applied decreases with the lapse of time and approaches the limiting current value 30 seconds after the start of application of the voltage. In this embodiment, the current value difference is defined as 'SOreduction current,' and the SOconcentration around the sensor is detected from an integrated value of the SOreduction current.

SOx concentration detection device

A gas sensor element is composed of a sensor section, a heater section, and a porous protective layer. The sensor section is composed of a solid electrolyte layer and a pair of electrodes. The heater section heats the sensor section to activate it. The porous protective layer covers surfaces of the sensor section and the heater section of the gas sensor element in a gas sensor which is exposed to a target detection gas to be detected. The porous protective layer is made of a mixture of hydrophobic heat resisting particles having a contact angle of not less than 75&#xb0; to a drop of water, and the hydrophilic heat resisting particles having a contact angle not more than 30&#xb0; to a drop of water. A gas sensor equipped with the above gas sensor element is also disclosed.

Gas sensor element and gas sensor equipped with the same

An organic EL device includes: a pair of electrodes; and an organic layer sandwiched between the pair of electrodes. The organic layer includes a compound including layer, and the compound including layer includes a compound of 1,3-bis[N,N-bis{(4'-methylbiphen-4-yl)}amino]-5-N,N-bis(4-methylphenyl) aminobenzene. The heat resistance and the vapor deposition property of the organic layer containing the above tertiary amine compound can be improved.

Organic EL device with organic layer including starburst compound

An organic electroluminescent device comprising a light-emitting layer between a pair of electrodes, the light-emitting layer comprising a mixture of a hole-transporting material consisting of a tertiary amine compound, an electron-transporting material and a light-emitting additive material, in which the tertiary amine compound has two or more oxidation potentials determined by a cyclic voltammetry wherein a potential difference between the first oxidation potential and the second oxidation potential in the oxidation potentials is 0.22V or more, and a glass transition temperature of at least 100&#xb0; C., and the electron-transporting material has a glass transition temperature of at least 100&#xb0; C.

Organic EL devices and production process thereof

An organic EL device includes a pair of electrodes, a light emitter layer obtained by mixing a hole transporting material made of a tertiary amine compound, an electron transporting material and a light emitting additive. The tertiary amine compound constituting the hole transporting material has only one oxidation potential as measured by the cyclic voltammetry. A difference in ionization potential between the hole transporting material and electron transporting material of the light emitter layer is 0.35 eV or greater.

Organic electroluminescent device

An organic EL element is formed having a crystalline CuPc film as a positive hole injection layer and a positive hole transport layer, a luminescent layer, an electron transport layer and an electron injection layer, composed of amorphous organic materials, laminated between a pair of electrodes, wherein the change in the diffraction peak value of the CuPc film appearing with X-ray diffraction, which is produced by heating in the utilization temperature range of the organic EL element, is within &#xb1;25% of the diffraction peak value before heating. The organic EL element comprising a crystalline organic material is resistant to current shorts and leaks and exhibits satisfactory luminance properties in the utilization temperature range.

Organic electroluminescent element and process for its manufacture

An evaporated fuel adsorbing apparatus for an engine intake passage includes a layer of activated carbon disposed in the engine intake passage for adsorbing evaporated fuel. The activated carbon includes activated carbon pellets having pores. At least one of an average pellet size and an average pore size of the activated carbon is varied in an intake gas flow direction of the engine intake passage. More particularly, an average pore size of a first portion of the activated carbon located in an atmosphere side portion of the layer is greater than an average pore size of a second portion of the activated carbon located in an engine side of the layer. An average pellet size of the first portion of the activated carbon is smaller than an average pellet size of the second portion of the activated carbon.

Evaporated fuel adsorbing apparatus for an engine intake passage

An organic electroluminescent device includes an anode, a cathode, a hole injection layer, a hole transport layer, an electron capture layer, a luminescent layer, and an electron transport layer. The five layers are sequentially stuck in the above order between the anode and the cathode in the direction toward the cathode. The luminescent layer includes a host organic material, the luminescent spectrum of which has a peak between 380 nm and 510 nm, and a guest fluorescent dye. The hole injection layer and the hole transport layer respectively include a host organic material. The lowest energy level in the conduction band of the host organic material of the electron capture layer is lower than those of the hole transport layer and the luminescent layer. Therefore, the device can emit light including blue light component while the host organic material of the hole transport layer is prevented from deteriorating.

An organic EL element includes a luminescent layer containing an organic compound and sandwiched between an anode and a cathode. The luminescent layer is composed of a hole-transporting luminescent layer and an electron-transporting luminescent layer. Both luminescent layers emit light simultaneously. Each of the hole-transporting luminescent layer and the electron-transporting luminescent layer includes two or more kinds of fluorescent materials so that the emission spectrum from the hole-transporting luminescent layer substantially confirms the emission spectrum from of the electron-transporting luminescent layer.
