A drive system of an electric vehicle includes: an internal combustion engine; a generating motor provided so as to be able to generate electricity by receiving motive force from the internal combustion engine; and a travel motor provided so as to be able to be driven by electric power generated by the generating motor, and the drive system is configured so as to be able to switch a series hybrid mode and an engine direct connected mode, the series hybrid mode being a mode in which, while the internal combustion engine and the drive wheel are linked via a first clutch so as to be unlinkable/linkable, the travel motor and the drive wheel are linked via a second clutch different from the first clutch so as to be unlinkable/linkable, and the travel motor is used as a drive power source such that the electric vehicle travels by transmitting motive force from the travel motor to the drive wheel, the engine direct connected mode being a mode in which at least one of the internal combustion engine and the generator is used as a drive power source such that the electric vehicle travels by transmitting motive force from the drive power source to the drive wheel. At a mode switching time from the engine direct connected mode to the series hybrid mode involving deceleration, when the rotation synchronization or the engagement of the second clutch on an engagement side is not completed before the vehicle speed is decelerated to a predetermined vehicle speed, the first clutch on a disengagement side is disengaged before the engagement of the second clutch is completed.

An object detection apparatus measures a distance to a detected object at each irradiation angle, based on reflected waves of electromagnetic waves irradiated from a laser light irradiating unit at each irradiation angle. The apparatus determines whether the measured distance remains unchanged for prescribed period of time, for each irradiation angle, and stores the determined distance in a storage unit as a stationary object distance in association with the irradiation angle. The apparatus compares the current measured distance and the stored distances, and determines whether a stationary object distance matching the current distance is present among the stored distances. The apparatus initially compares the shortest stationary object distance among the stored distances with the current distance, and upon determining that a stationary object distance matching the current distance is present, stops the comparison of the current distance and the stored distances that have not been compared with the current distance.

A traffic measuring device includes: an irradiation part to irradiate laser light at an irradiation angle of predetermined interval to form a scan layer inclined upward or downward in a gravity direction; a light receiving part to receive the laser light irradiated from the irradiation part and reflected by a vehicle; and a distance acquisition part that detects a distance to the vehicle as a detection distance for each irradiation angle using the laser light received by the light receiving part. The distance acquisition part acquires a group of the detection distance relative to a whole of the scan layer. An area monitoring system is configured to include a monitoring apparatus and a reflector. The monitoring apparatus includes a time-based detecting unit (i.e., a first detecting unit) that detects an intruder at a scanning angle by measuring a distance to an object based on an elapsed time until reflected light is received, for a first detection area. The monitoring apparatus further includes a light reception amount-based detecting unit (i.e., a second detecting unit) that detects an intruder at a scanning angle by comparing an actual light reception amount at a timing at which reflected light is received when radiated laser light is reflected by a reflector, and a light reception threshold (i.e., a reference light reception amount) set in advance, with a second detection area set farther than the first detection area as an area subjected to detection.

A monitoring area is scanned by an area sensor device (e.g., an optical distance meter) detects objects. Moving objects are identified among the detected objects, and, among the identified moving objects, a moving object which is present in the monitoring area and which has been newest identified is set as a tracking target. The moving object which has been set at the tracking target is automatically tracked by a camera device. As a result, even if there are present a plurality of moving objects in the monitoring area, tracking targets can be switched from one to another, so that it is possible to designate, as a tracking target, a moving object desired by an observer.

Apparatus and method of monitoring moving objects

In a monitoring apparatus, a monitoring area is scanned by an area sensor device to detect objects. Moving objects are identified among the detected objects, and, among the identified moving objects, a moving object which is the closest to a priority monitoring object which is preset in the monitoring area is set as a tracking target. The object which is set to be tracked is automatically tracked by a camera device. As a result, even if there are present a plurality of moving objects in the monitoring area, tracking targets are switched from one to another, so that it is possible to set a moving object desired by an observer.

In a monitoring apparatus, an optical sensor senses objects present in a sensing area, and moving speeds and moving directions of the objects are calculated based on changes with time in positional information of the sensed objects. An object which meets a predetermined moving condition is determined as a moving object. Hence an entrance of the moving object into the sensing area can be monitored. In this apparatus, by a determining section, it is determined whether or not an object is sensed in an area (after-passage sensing area) which is set to include positions adjacent to positions through which the sensed moving object has passed. When the object has been sensed in the area, by the determining section, it is further determined whether or not the object has remained for a predetermined determination period of time or more. This determined result is outputted by an outputting section.

Apparatus and method for monitoring moving objects in sensing area

A lens barrel includes a plurality of lens groups including a retractable lens group, a plurality of lens retaining frames to respectively retain the plurality of lens groups, a movable lens barrel to retain the plurality of lens retaining frames therein, and a lens retaining frame driving device to drive the lens retaining frames via the movable lens barrel. The lens retaining frames, the movable lens barrel and the lens retaining frame driving device move the plurality of lens groups between a collapsed state and a photographing state. The retractable lens retaining frame is movable between a position on a photographing axis and a position inside a housing located outside an inside diameter position of the movable lens barrel in the collapsed state by moving in a direction inclined relative to the photographing axis and moving in a direction orthogonal to the photographing axis.
