A combustion assist device is provided in an internal combustion engine provided with a fuel injector for injecting at least a portion of fuel into an intake manifold. Further, the combustion assist device is provided with an electrode element which is provided in the intake manifold and to which a high frequency high voltage is applied. The electrode element includes a dielectric material plate, a first metal conductor, and a second metal conductor. The dielectric material plate includes a first surface and a second surface, and divides a portion of the intake manifold into a first flow path on a first surface side and a second flow path on a second surface side. The first metal conductor is provided on the first surface. The second metal conductor is provided on the second surface.

Combustion assist device for internal combustion engine

A change amount per unit time of an engine output command for controlling engine output of an internal combustion engine is calculated as an engine output increasing rate, and a power supply device is controlled so that power corresponding to the calculated engine output increasing rate is supplied to a combustion promoter generation device. The combustion promoter generation device generates a combustion promoter through the power supplied from the power supply device to supply the combustion promoter to a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine, and a generation amount of the combustion promoter increases as the supplied power increases. In this manner, the generation amount of the combustion promoter is adjusted.

When a ratio of change in heat of air-fuel mixture, which is an index indicating how a heat of air-fuel mixture in the previous cycle changes in the subsequent cycle, does not fall within an allowable range, a variable valve control mechanism capable of changing a valve-closing timing of an exhaust valve for adjusting an internal EGR gas amount is controlled by using an optimum value of exhaust valve close (EVC) timing derived by correcting a set valve-closing timing of the exhaust valve so that the ratio of change in heat of air-fuel mixture falls within the allowable range.

Controller and control method for homogeneous charge compression ignition engine

In an internal combustion engine provided with a fuel injection valve for injecting fuel into an intake air flow path for each cylinder, there is performed a plurality of fuel injections during one cycle for each cylinder, one injection thereof being performed in synchronization with a period during which an intake valve is being opened and reverse flow of in-cylinder gas into the intake air flow path occurs. In accordance with a measurement quantity that changes as the temperatures of the surface, at the intake air flow path, of the intake valve and the inner wall face of the intake air flow path change, there is set the proportion of the amount of fuel injected in synchronization with the period during which reverse flow occurs to the total amount of fuel injected in one cycle for each cylinder.
