A light projector and a light receiver each includes a case body, a light transmission plate closing an opening in a front face of the case body, and a pair of caps closing openings in end faces of the case body. The reliability of testing a normally closed contact in a relay unit may involve the following. While the load is de-energized, sending a test signal to a normally closed contact (b, b) and detecting the state of the returning test signal sent. The state of the returning test signal resent may be assessed as normal when the re-detection result satisfies the predetermined criteria.

A key switch has a switch part and an operating part. The switch part is activated to switch contact points as an operating key is inserted. The operating part includes a driver cam that rotates as it is pushed by the operating key and to activate the switch part and a plurality of lock cams configured to directly lock the driver cam in a normal condition when the operating key is pulled out of the operating part and to rotate as it is pushed by the operating key so as to release the driver cam from its locked condition. The key switch may further include lock cam holder for holding the lock cams in the normal condition when the operating key is pulled out.

In this case, a key inserted into a key hole of a lock is rotated through 90&#xb0; to vertically orient an interference protruding portion to thereby prevent fitting of the slider fitting portion into the fitting hole portion. Only in this state, the key can be withdrawn from the key hole of the lock.
