Solid electrolytic capacitor with small equivalent series resistance and method for manufacturing the same

Provided is a solid electrolytic capacitor having a lower leakage current than a conventional solid electrolytic capacitor. The solid electrolytic capacitor includes: an anode foil having a surface on which an oxide film is formed; a cathode foil; and a separator disposed between the anode foil and the cathode foil, wherein a solid electrolyte made of a conductive high-molecular weight compound in a fine particle form and a water-soluble high-molecular weight compound solution which is formed of a water-soluble high-molecular weight compound in a liquid form, water and alcohol having a nitro group are introduced into a gap formed between the anode foil and the cathode foil in a state where the water-soluble high-molecular weight compound solution surrounds the solid electrolyte.

An electrolytic solution, for use in an electrolytic capacitor, comprising a solvent and a solute wherein water accounts for 20 to 100% by weight of the solvent and the total solute content is from 1.5 to 44% by weight, and an electrolytic capacitor comprising a capacitor element, a case containing the capacitor element, and a sealant with which the case is sealed, the capacitor element comprising a pair of electrode foils each comprising a dielectric, a separator for isolating the electrode foils from each other, and the above electrolytic solution filled between the electrode foils.

The electrical properties and high-temperature characteristics of an electrolytic capacitor are rendered satisfactory by addition of a compound with an unsaturated bond-containing chain which serves to absorb hydrogen gas generated by reaction between the aluminum electrode foil and the electrolyte solution. The electrolytic capacitor contains the unsaturated compound which allows hydrogen addition, or the electrolytic solution, which comprises a solvent composed of 10-80 wt % of an organic solvent and 90-20 wt % water and at least one electrolyte selected from the group consisting of carboxylic acids or their salts and inorganic acids or their salts, also comprises one or more unsaturated compounds which are water-soluble or soluble in polar and protic polar solvents.

An electrolytic capacitor using an electrolytic solution constituted by a solvent consisting of from 20 to 80 wt % of an organic solvent and from 80 to 20 wt % of water, the electrolytic capacitor comprising a nitro or nitroso compound except for nitrophenol, nitrobenzoic acid, dinitrobenzoic acid, nitrophenone and nitroanisole, in a portion inside the capacitor other than in the electrolytic solution. The electrolytic capacitor exhibits a low impedance, excellent low temperature stability and good life characteristics, and further, is excellent in the effect to absorb a hydrogen gas, even when use is made of an electrolyte solution employing mixed solvent having a great water content and when an electrolytic capacitor is used under a high temperature condition.

An electrolytic solution for an electrolytic capacitor, which includes (1) a solvent made up of 20 to 80% by weight of an organic solvent and 80 to 20% by weight of water, (2) at least one electrolyte selected from the group consisting of carboxylic acids, salts of carboxylic acids, inorganic acids, and salts of inorganic acids, and (3) a chelate compound. Preferably, an organic acid or salt thereof and an inorganic acid or salt thereof are used in combination. The chelate compound may be selected from the group consisting of ethylenediamine-N,N,N&prime;,N&prime;-tetraacetic acid, trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane-N,N,N&prime;,N&prime;-tetraacetic acid monohydrate, N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)glycine, ethylenediamine-N,N,N&prime;,N&prime;-tetrakis(methylenephosphonic acid), diethylenetriamine-N,N,N&prime;,N&Prime;,N&Prime;-pentaacetic acid, 1,3-diamino-2-hydroxypropane-N,N,N&prime;,N&prime;-tetraacetic acid, ethylenediamine-N,N&prime;-diacetic acid, ethylenediamine-N,N&prime;-bis(methylenephosphonic acid) hemihydrate, O,O&prime;-bis(2-aminoethyl)ethyleneglycol-N,N,N&prime;,N&prime;-tetraacetic acid, and N-(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine-N,N&prime;,N&prime;-triacetic acid. An electrolytic capacitor using, as its electrolytic solution, the disclosed electrolytic solution is also disclosed.

An electrolytic solution for use in an electrolytic capacitor, having a solution containing a solvent consisting of 20 to 80% by weight of an organic solvent and 80 to 20% by weight of water, and at least one electrolyte selected from a carboxylic acid or a salt thereof and an inorganic acid or a salt thereof, having added thereto at least on nitro compound selected from nitrophenol, nitrobenzoic acid, dinitrobenzoic acid, nitroacetophenone and nitroanisole. The electrolytic solution has a low impedance and excellent low-temperature stability, along with good working life characteristics, and it can also exhibit an excellent hydrogen gas absorption function when an electrolytic solution contains a highly increased amount of water in its mixed solvent or when an electrolytic capacitor is used under high temperature conditions.
