A method of producing thin film transistor arrays and having at least 7 steps including: a first step of forming a first electrode layer uniformly over an insulating substrate; a second step of forming electrodes, such as drain and source electrodes and bus bars with a desired pattern by photoetching the first electrode; a third step of forming a uniform semiconducting layer on the surface of the substrate having the patterned electrodes; a fourth step of successively forming a uniform insulating layer over the uniformly deposited semiconducting layer while keeping the array in a vacuum; a fifth step of photoetching the uniformly deposited insulating layer into a desired pattern; a sixth step of photoetching the uniform semiconducting layer into the same pattern as the patterned insulating layer; a seventh step of forming a second electrode uniformly over the surface having the patterned electrodes and insulating layer; and an eighth step of photoetching the uniformly deposited second electrode into a desired pattern.

Method of producing thin film transistor array

A d.c. gas-discharge display device has gas-discharge display panel including hot cathodes inserted in a thermal electron generating space, an insulating plate having holes as discharge-glow spaces and on one surface thereof grid electrodes with holes for penetration of thermal electrons and on another surface thereof anode electrodes, and gas, metallic vapor on a mixture thereof, which fills the space in the display panel and forms an envelope. A voltage generator supplies the cathodes with a potential to provide thermal electrons. A first pulse generator supplies the grid electrodes with a pulse having a pulse height higher than V.sub.ON and being biased by a d.c. voltage lower than V.sub.OFF. A second pulse generator supplies the anode electrodes with a positive pulse having a pulse height higher than the ionization voltage of the gas, metallic vapor or mixture and being biased by a d.c. voltage between ground level and the ionization voltage. The discharge glow in each discharge hole is thus turned on during the time the pulse applied to the grid electrode coincides with the pulse applied to the anode electrode.

Display device using hot cathode gas discharge

An electro-optical device using a liquid crystal consisting of 99.9 to 30 wt.% of at least one nematic liquid crystal and 0.1 to 70 wt. % of at least one optically active liquid crystal compound, (+)-p-alkoxy-p'-(2-methylbutyl)azoxybenzene. Such a device has a better display performance than similar devices because the mixture has a threshold voltage and a rapid response to an electric signal applied to the device, and so it is very practical for a matrix display device.

Electro-optical device

The present invention provides an improved electro-optical device having a cell for containing a liquid crystal and consisting of two light-transparent plates opposed to each other and having electrically conductive electrodes on the inner surfaces thereof, the electrodes on at least one inner surface being transparent and spacer means between said opposed electrodes; and a power supply coupled to said electrodes for applying an electric voltage to said electrodes, whereas the improvement comprises a liquid crystal in said cell between said electrodes consisting of 99.95 to 65 wt.% of at least one nematic liquid crystal and 0.05 to 35 wt.% of at least one optically active compound of the formula: ##EQU1## wherein X is --N=N-- or ##EQU2##

Electro-optic device
