The reel hub in a tape machine is resiliently coupled to the reel shaft during rotation at least in a tape supply direction. The resilient coupling is either via one or more spring members or via one or more viscous elastic members.

Cassette tape machine

A cassette deck which can be easily miniaturized while being capable of being manufactured at a reduced cost. The cassette deck includes a head stand reciprocably mounted to be able to move in a direction perpendicular to the tape running direction. A magnetic head is mounted on the head stand and is rotatable between two positions about an axis parallel to the direction of movement of the head stand. A tape-running-direction switching unit selects the tape running direction according to the angular position of the head. A head stand driving mechanism is provided including a first gear rotated to reciprocate the head stand. A head rotating mechanism includes a second gear which when rotated rotates the magnetic head. Torque is applied to the first and second gears from a single drive source.

Cassette tape deck

A support is provided on a shaft member immediately below reel-engaging projections to resiliently support the reel with a force such that a fully wound reel is supported substantially at an intermediate portion of the cassette case.

The engagement between shaft hub and cassette reel is made resilient to dampen tape resonance. The hub projections can be either of a viscous elastic material, or a radially yieldable spring member.

A cassette machine is provided with a central roller for contacting the tape and a pair of magnetic heads on either side of the additional roller and employed in accordance with the direction of tape travel, so that the head-tape contact point is always isolated form the supply reel by the additional roller.

Cassette type-tape recorder

A pair of spaced cassette retaining plates move to clamp the rear surface of a tape cassette when the head moves into engagement with the tape.

Tape retaining mechanism

A braking force is applied to a cassette supply reel during periods of vertical vibration to decrease tape resonance and improve wow characteristics. The braking force can be applied either axially or radially.
