A control device for an engine includes an angular velocity detecting unit that detects the angular velocity of a rotating shaft which is driven according to an output of an engine, an angular acceleration calculating unit that calculates angular acceleration based on the angular velocity detected by the angular velocity detecting unit, a heat generation timing calculating unit that calculates a certain timing when the ratio of an amount of heat generation in a cylinder to the total amount of heat generation of one cycle falls in a predetermined range, based on a change of the angular acceleration calculated by the angular acceleration calculating unit, and a combustion control unit that controls combustion in the cylinder by comparison between the certain timing calculated by the heat generation timing calculating unit and a predetermined heat generation timing reference value.

Control device of engine

There is provided an engine cooling system, in which operation tendency information calculating section provided in a control unit calculates values representing the tendency of engine operation, and a control valve provided in a cooling water circulating device is controlled based on the values. It is therefore possible to control the cooling water to a proper temperature conforming to the engine operating condition and improve both the engine power and the fuel economy.

Engine cooling system

A parameter representing a real generation amount is detected and the intake is increased based on the detected parameter instead of on-information of the switch of the electric load. Therefor, the rotation speed in idling is stabilized without excess idle-up. The controllability is excellent due to the combination with controlling the load of the alternator itself.

Device for controlling change in idling

An air fuel ratio detecting device is disposed in an exhaust gas passage of an engine, and detects the oxygen concentration in exhaust gases to produce a signal indicative of the air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture supplied to the engine. The air-fuel ratio detecting device serves as a linear A/F sensor for detecting whether the air-fuel mixture is on a leaner or richer side of a stoichiometric ratio and for also detecting the value of the air-fuel ratio. An electric signal representative of the oxygen concentration in a detection chamber supplied with exhaust gases is applied by a sensor cell to a controller which then controls a pump cell to cause the oxygen concentration in the detection chamber to indicate a nearly stoichiometric ratio. The air-fuel ratio detecting device can continuously detect the air-fuel ratio with an electric control signal from the controller. The stoichiometric ratio is detected when the potential difference between the electrode of the pump cell jumps or varies discontinuously. Since the oxygen concentration difference directly serves as detected stoichiometric ratio information, the stoichiometric ratio can be detected with an increased response. The stoichiometric ratio may be detected, using a variable threshold value, based on the potential difference across the pump cell, and the threshold value is selected depending on a control parameter for fine adjustments of a target air-fuel ratio.

Air-fuel ratio detecting device

A stratified-combustion internal combustion engine according to the present invention comprises at least two intake ports situated on one side of a combustion chamber, guide passages connected individually to the intake ports, a fuel injector disposed in one of the guide passages. Each guide passage has a straight region extending over a predetermined length from its corresponding intake port. Thus, an air-fuel mixture and air, guided by the respective straight regions of the guide passages to be supplied through their corresponding intake ports to the combustion chamber, flow along the axial direction of a cylinder bore, thereby forming barrel swirl flow separated in layers from each other.

Stratified-combustion internal combustion engine

A stalling preventing appartus for an engine comprising intake air amount increasing means for increasing the amount of intake air to the engine from idling condition when the vehicle is in a start preparation condition, and rotation speed increase prevention means for preventing the engine speed from increasing due to the increase in intake air amount by the intake air amount increasing means, operation of the intake air amount increasing means and the rotation speed increase prevention means being stopped when the vehicle is in a start preparation condition, whereby a sufficient amount of air is supplied to the engine at starting of the vehicle and a delay in response of the air intake system to the pressing-down operation of the acceleration pedal is eliminated to increase the output torque of the engine at clutch-on and prevent engine stalling.

Apparatus for preventing engine from stalling

A method and device for determining and controlling the condition of a spark ignition internal combustion engine involves detecting a physical value of combustion varying in association with combustion in the combustion chamber, then calculating the heat evolution rate from the physical value, and then determining the adjusting the combustion condition in dependence on the falling area of the heat evolution rate.
