The present invention is to provide a wire harness capable of improving productivity and reducing cost as well as enhancing waterproof performance to secure reliability, and a method for manufacturing the wire harness, The wire harness includes an electronic wire having a core wire and a covering part covering the core wire, a male terminal attached to the core wire exposed out of the covering part of the electric wire, a housing attached to the covering part and formed to lay the male terminal therein, and a ring-shaped waterproof member disposed between the housing and the covering part, filling a gap therebetween, and made of soft resin.

A crimping apparatus includes an anvil for supporting a metal terminal including a base plate portion for mounting an electric wire thereon and a pair of crimping piece portions extending upwardly respectively from opposite side edges of the base plate portion and a crimper which includes a groove portion being opposed to a supporting portion of the anvil. An inner surface of the groove portion of the anvil and a terminal support face of the supporting portion of the crimper cooperate to press the crimping piece portions for crimping the crimping piece portions to the electric wire mounted on the metal terminal. A width of the groove portion of the crimper is not more than 1.0 mm. The terminal support surface of the anvil is formed into a concavely curved surface in which a depth of the concavely curved surface is not smaller than 0.06 mm and is not larger than 0.17 mm in a cross-section of the anvil perpendicular to an axis direction of the electric wire.

A terminal crimping apparatus includes an anvil for supporting a metal terminal including a base plate portion for placing an electric wire thereon and a pair of crimping piece portions extending upwardly respectively from opposite side edges of the base plate portion and a crimper which includes a press-deforming portion having a generally arch-shape formed of two arc-shaped surfaces which are opposed to the anvil. The anvil and the crimper cooperate to press the crimping piece portions for crimping the crimping piece portions to the electric wire placed on the metal terminal. The shape of the crimper satisfies a formula, Index a=c&#xb7;cos &#x3b8;, where c represents a length of the arc-shaped surface of the crimper, and &#x3b8; represents an angle formed by a tangential line to the arc-shaped surface at a central portion of the crimper and a vertical line.

Terminal crimping apparatus

A crimping apparatus includes an anvil for supporting a metal terminal including a base plate portion for mounting an electric wire thereon and a pair of crimping piece portions extending upwardly respectively from opposite side edges of the base plate portion, and a crimper which has a press-fastening portion for press-fastening the crimping piece portions. The anvil and the press-fastening portion of the crimper cooperate to press-fasten the crimping piece portions for crimping the crimping piece portions to the electric wire mounted on the metal terminal. An apparatus for measuring a metal terminal includes a crimping unit which crimps core wire crimping piece portions to a core wire of a sheathed electric wire to form a core wire crimping portion and crimps sheath crimping piece portions to a sheath portion of the sheathed electric wire to form a sheath crimping portion, a gripping member which grips the core wire crimping portion in a direction perpendicular to an extending direction of a base plate portion of the metal terminal, and a measuring unit which measures a dimension of the core wire crimping portion and a dimension of the sheath crimping portion. A height of the sheath crimping portion is measured in a direction intersecting with or parallel to the direction of gripping of the core wire crimping portion in a state that the core wire crimping portion is gripped in a direction perpendicular to an extending direction of the base plate portion.

Method of measuring metal terminal and apparatus for measuring the same

In a water-stop structure of a sheathed wire of the invention, a water-stop member includes an upper member and a lower member, and the upper member has a recess disposed above water-stop portions so that ultrasonic vibrations of an ultrasonic horn can be transmitted to the water-stop portions from a region closer to the water-stop portions. The ultrasonic horn has a protrusion which is formed on a lower surface thereof, and can be fitted to the recess in the upper member. In this sheathed wire water-stop structure, vibrations of the ultrasonic horn can be transmitted to the water-stop portions from the region closer to the water-stop portions, and therefore the ultrasonic vibrations can be efficiently transmitted, so that the welding time can be reduced, and besides the production cost can be reduced.
