The present invention provides a poisoning-resistant catalyst for combustion of CO and inflammable gases which comprises an inorganic carrier, a noble metal active ingredient supported on said inorganic carrier, and silica supported on said noble metal active ingredient, said noble metal active ingredient comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of Pt, Rh and Pd, the surface of said catalyst being richer in silica and the inner part of said catalyst becoming richer in said noble metal active ingredient the deeper from the surface said inner part becomes; and a catalytic combustion apparatus for burning inflammable gases in a starting gas by the use of said catalyst. Said catalyst has a high resistance to poisoning and has a high level of activity at a low temperature of 200.degree. C. or lower.

A gas mixture separating apparatus comprises an adsorption column packed with an adsorbent; a gas mixture column-end feeding device for feeding a gas mixture to one of two ends of the adsorption column; an unadsorbed-gas column-end discharge device for discharging unadsorbed gas from the other end of the adsorption column; a pressurizing device for pressurizing the gas mixture to be fed to the end of the adsorption column; and an adsorber depressurizing device connected to the end of the adsorption column on the gas mixture feed side. It comprises further a gas mixture side-injection device for feeding the gas mixture to the adsorbent in the adsorption column from the shell side thereof. Further, the gas mixture side-injection device is branched from the gas mixture column-end feeding device. Further, the apparatus comprises concentration sensors for detecting the concentration of the same sorts of components in gas flow as are adsorbed by the adsorbent in the adsorption column in the vicinity of the locations at which a plurality of gas mixture side injection devices are installed.

Method of and apparatus for separating gas mixture

Nitrogen having purity of 99.9999% or more can be produced continuously by contacting a starting gas mixture comprising 90% by volume or more of nitrogen and 10% by volume or less of oxygen with A-type zeolite package in an adsorption column at an adsorption temperature of -100.degree. to -196.degree. C. to remove oxygen from the starting gas mixture and regenerating A-type zeolite by heating it at a temperature higher than the adsorption temperature.
