The present invention relates to sliding parts, precision parts and timepieces and electronic equipment using those parts. Sliding parts are composed by a resin in which the degree of orientation of a fibrous filler is higher at the portion serving as the sliding surface than inside the sliding part, and the fibrous filler is oriented along the sliding surface on the sliding surface. Alternatively, precision parts are composed by a resin to which has been added carbon fibers for which a carbon compound is thermally decomposed to carbon in the vapor phase and simultaneously grown directly into fibers simultaneous to this thermal decomposition. Moreover, timepieces and electronic equipment are composed by these sliding parts or these precision parts.

A charged particle generating method in which mode is changeable between an ion generation mode and an electron generation mode. In the ion generation mode, a raw material is supplied to a tip end of a charged particle generating electrode through a raw-material passage formed in the charged particle generating electrode. A first electric field, in which the charged particle generating electrode is positive and the charged particle extract electrode is negative, is generated to emit ions from the raw material at the charged particle generating electrode. In the electron generation mode, supplying the raw material from the raw-material supply section is stopped. A second electric field, in which the charged particle generating electrode is negative and the charged particle extract electrode is positive, is generated to emit electrons from the raw material at the charged particle generating electrode.

The MoSi,heating element has not been so resistant under the low-temperature heating, because the low-temperature oxidation, which is attributable to the grain boundary oxidation, occurred. In the present invention, long life under the low-temperature heating is attained by the following two structures. (1) The MoSi,grains have a network structure and are linked three dimensionally. (2) The secondary, silica-bearing oxide or glass phase forms a net-like structure around the MoSi,grains.

In an infrared radiation source containing hot-pressed molybdenum disilicide reinforced with silicon carbide whiskers as the illuminant thereof, terminal portions of the illuminant having a protective dense silica film of 5 to 20 .mu.m in thickness formed on the surface thereof which portions are to be heated at a temperature of 400 to 800.degree. C. are either set to have a current density of at most 12 A/mm.sup.2 or disposed in dry air having a relative humidity at 25.degree. C. of at most 30% (absolute humidity: 0.00588). As a result, the low-temperature oxidation phenomenon that would otherwise be developed in the terminal portions of the illuminant is suppressed. Thus, there can be obtained an infrared radiation source containing an illuminant made of molybdenum disilicide reinforced with silicon carbide whiskers and having a long serviceable life span.

An alumina-zirconia-silicon carbide sintered ceramic composite having high strength and high hardness is composed of 5 to 50 volume percent of partially stabilized zirconia powder of mean particle size between 0.1 and 1.0 .mu.m, 3 to 40 volume percent of silicon carbide powder of mean particle size smaller than 1 .mu.m or silicon carbide whiskers of 1 .mu.m or less in diameter with an aspect ratio between 3 and 200 or combination of said silicon carbide powder and said silicon carbide whiskers, the balance being substantially alumina powder, wherein zirconia plus silicon carbide accounts for 55 volume percent at most of the total. The sintered ceramic composite is manufactured by making a mixed powder composed of 5 to 50 volume percent of partially stabilized zirconia powder of mean particle size between 0.1 and 1.0 .mu.m, 3 to 40 volume percent of silicon carbide powder of mean particle size smaller than 1 .mu.m or silicon carbide whiskers of 1 .mu.m or less in diameter with an aspect ratio between 3 and 200 or combination of said silicon carbide powder, and said silicon carbide whiskers, the balance being substantially alumina powder, wherein zirconia plus silicon carbide accounts for 55 volume percent at most of the total, and then sintering the molded mixed powder at a temperature between 1400.degree. and 1800.degree. C. Further, the mixed powder to be molded and sintered is made on a ball mill equipped with a pot made of one or more of the ceramic materials of which such sintered ceramic is composed.
