A cold head is disposed in an insulating container and cooled by a refrigerator. A superconductor is disposed in the insulating container, contacting the cold head, and is cooled to its superconduction transition temperature or lower by heat conduction. A magnetizing coil is disposed outside the insulating container for applying a magnetic field to the superconductor. Control is performed so that a magnetic field determined considering the magnetic field to be captured by the superconductor is applied. A pulsed magnetic field is applied to the superconductor a plurality of times. Each pulsed magnetic field is applied when the temperature of the superconductor is a predetermined temperature or lower. A maximum pulsed magnetic field is applied at least once in an initial or intermediate stage of the repeated application of pulsed magnetic fields. After that, a pulsed magnetic field equal to or less than the maximum pulsed magnetic field is applied. Pulsed magnetic fields are repeatedly applied while the temperature of the superconductor is lowered. A pulsed magnetic field is applied when the temperature Tof a central portion of the superconductor is the superconduction transition temperature or lower and the temperature of a peripheral portion is higher than T. The temperature of the entire superconductor is brought close to Tto apply another pulsed magnetic field. The magnetizing coil faces at least one of two opposite sides of the superconductor to apply pulsed magnetic fields to the superconductor in its magnetization direction.

Superconducting magnet apparatus and method for magnetizing superconductor

A magnetic device which is highly durable, reliable, and safe without being damaged when a magnetic filed is applied. The magnetic device includes a cooling device having a cold head refrigerated by an effect of a cryogenic refrigerator, a magnetic field generation device configured to apply a non-stationary magnetic field on a magnetic body, and a cold head extension portion configured to thermally connect the magnetic body and the cold head. The cold head extension portion includes at least two members, one a low resistance member and the other a high resistance member having different resistivities. With this device, the eddy current generated in the cold head extension portion and the electromagnetic force produced in the cold head by the cold head extension portion are reduced.

Magnetic device

A controlling method for a nuclear magnetic resonance apparatus. The method includes: (A) cooling the high-temperature superconductor at a magnetization low temperature sufficiently lower than a superconductor transition temperature, and magnetizing the high-temperature superconductor with a magnetic field; (B) raising the temperature of the high-temperature superconductor at a magnetic flux setting temperature higher than the magnetization low temperature and lower than the superconductor transition temperature and setting a predetermined magnetic flux density; and (C) controlling the high-temperature superconductor in an operation temperature range lower than the magnetic flux setting temperature. Therefore, a strong static magnetic field comparable to a conventional superconducting magnet is formed without using a refrigerant (liquid helium) essential for operating the conventional superconducting magnet, and a magnetic flux density of the static magnetic field is held constant.

Controlling method of superconductor magnetic field application apparatus, and nuclear magnetic resonance apparatus and superconducting magnet apparatus using the method

A nuclear magnetic resonance apparatus including: a cup-shaped high-temperature superconductor having a hollow cylindrical shape or portion cooled to not more than a superconducting transition temperature in a vacuum insulating container and a detection coil for detecting an NMR signal of a material to be measured inserted into the hollow cylindrical portion of the high-temperature superconductor. The high-temperature superconductor is magnetized in an axial direction, a static magnetic field is thereby generated in the hollow cylindrical portion in a cylinder axial direction, and the NMR signal of a material is detected by the detection coil and the existing spectrometer. A strong static magnetic field comparable to a conventional superconducting magnet is formed without using a refrigerant (liquid helium) essential for operating the conventional superconducting magnet, and a strength distribution of the static magnetic field is homogeneous.

Superconducting magnet apparatus and method for magnetizing

An Nd-Ba-Cu-O bulk superconductor includes oxide including metallic elements of neodymium (Nd), barium (Ba) and copper (Cu), and has a structure in which fine particles of Nd.sub.4 Ba.sub.2 Cu.sub.2 O.sub.10 (i.e., Nd422) are dispersed uniformly in crystalline grains of NdBa.sub.2 Cu.sub.3 O.sub.x (i.e., Nd123). It is produced by preparing a mixture powder in which an Nd123 powder and an Nd422 powder are present uniformly, thermally treating the mixture powder in a temperature range where the Nd123 powder melts partially at least but the Nd422 powder hardly melts, and gradually cooling the partially melted mixture powder in a temperature range around a solidifying point of the Nd123 powder. It exhibits an enhanced magnetic-field-trapping capability in the regions of low magnetic field, because of the pinning effect resulting from the fine particles of Nd422 dispersed uniformly in the crystalline grains of Nd123.

Superconducting motor

A superconductive magnetic levitation apparatus is provided which is simple in structure, low in cost and is used for readily explaining superconducting phenomena such as the Meissner effect and the pinning effect. The superconductive magnetic levitation apparatus includes a levitation moving unit 5 including superconductors 4, and a heat insulative tank 51 for storing a coolant 52 for cooling the superconductors 4; and a track 3 arranged in confronted relation with the superconductors 4 of the levitation moving unit 5, the track 3 including a number of permanent magnets 2 fixed to a ferromagnetic metal plate 1. The permanent magnets 2 are composed of a plurality of series connected magnetic pieces having the same pole in a longitudinal direction of the track 3 and a plurality of parallel connected magnetic pieces having different poles in a transverse direction of the track 3.

The sensor has a diaphragm made of a metal deformable by the physical quantity, a layered constructed insulating means of an insulating material which is formed on the diaphragm by means of a physical vapor desposition process, wherein the layered constructed insulating means has at least two insulating material layers, a strain gauge formed on the layered constructed insulating means opposite the diaphragm by means of a physical vapor deposition process, and a contact zone on the strain gauge to provide an electrical connection for a physical quantity sensing device to the sensor. Due to the layered construction of the insulating means, the thickness of the insulating means as a whole may be reduced below that of a single layer insulating means and maintain good insulative properties particularly at excessive strain.
