Disclosed is a process for producing a 4-nitrosodiphenylamine of the formula (2) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 independently represent hydrogen atom, methyl group, ethyl group, cyclohexyl group, methoxy group, ethoxy group or chlorine or bromine atom, or a salt thereof, comprising treating a diphenylamine represented by the formula (1) ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are as defined above with (i) a mixture of nitrogen oxides, (ii) a hydrogen halide and (iii) an aliphatic alcohol, wherein the atomic ratio of oxygen to nitrogen of the mixture of nitrogen oxides is more than 1.0 and less than 2.0. This process produces 4-nitrosodiphenylamine of the formula (2) or a salt thereof conveniently and effectively, and is industrially advantageous.

A method for producing chlorosilanes, which are useful in a wide range of industrial field as an intermediate for organosilicon products such as silicone rubbers, silicone oils, silicone resins, etc. as well as a raw material for the production of organic chemicals such as medicines, agricultural chemicals, dyestuffs, etc., represented by the general formula, ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.4, which may be the same or different, represent an alkyl group having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, a chloromethyl group, an ethynyl group or a halogen atom; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, which may be the same or different, represent an alkyl group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R.sub.5 and R.sub.6, which may be the same or different, represent an alkyl group having from 1 to 2 carbon atoms; and R.sub.7 represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms, which comprises reacting a disiloxane represented by the general formula, ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are as defined above, or a silanol represented by the general formula, ##STR3## wherein R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.7 are as defined above, with phosgene in the presence or absence of a tertiary amide.

Method for producing chlorosilanes

Salicylaldehydes useful for perfumes, agricultural chemicals, chelating agents and the like are produced in high yield with high selectivity by reacting formaldehyde or its derivative with a corresponding phenol in a solvent using as a catalyst chromium or iron compounds.
