A communication terminal apparatus such as a portable telephone apparatus has a main body, a selection operation unit, an operation inputting unit, a display unit, and a controller. The main body has a speaker and a microphone. The selection operation unit is provided on the main body and selects one mode from a plurality of modes of the communication terminal apparatus. The operation inputting nit is provided on the main body and changes functions based on the mode selected by the selection operation unit. The display unit is provided on the main body and displays information required for selection operation or inputting operation by the selection operation unit and/or the operation inputting unit. The controller sets a mode selected based on the input from the selection operation unit, and switches a function of the operation inputting unit based on the input from the selection operation unit. The controller controls display operation of the display unit based on the input from the selection operation under and/or the operation inputting unit.

Communication terminal apparatus and control method thereof

A read-write head is capable of suppressing fluctuation on a reproduced waveform caused by repetition of a writing and reading operation, and is capable suppressing noise appearing in the reproduced waveform just after a writing operation is carried out. The read-write head has an upper magnetic core, an upper shield also serving as an lower magnetic core, a lower shield and a magnetoresistive film arranged between the upper shield and the lower shield. The upper shield has a soft magnetic film having a magnitude of anisotropy field of 5 to 30 Oe, or is a multilayer film composed of a high saturation magnetic flux density film and a negative magneto-striction film. The lower shield has a soft magnetic film having a magnitude of anisotropy field of 5 to 30 Oe.

A magnetic domain controlling film for controlling the magnetic domain of a magnetoresistive film is formed by the patterning technique on a lower insulating film formed on a lower shield film. The magnetoresistive film is formed on the magnetic domain controlling film for converting a magnetic signal from a magnetic recording medium into an electrical signal using the magnetoresistive effect. A resist pattern is formed by the lift-off method on the magnetoresistive film in such a fashion as to leave a region of the magnetoresistive film corresponding to the tracks of the magnetic recording medium. A magnetoresistive element is formed by ion milling leaving only the portion of the magnetoresistive film corresponding to the tracks.

Method of fabricating a magnetoresistive thin-film magnetic head

A magnetic domain controlling film for controlling the magnetic domain of a magnetoresistive film is formed by a patterning technique on a lower insulating film formed on a lower shield film. The magnetoresistive film is formed on the magnetic domain controlling film for converting a magnetic signal from a magnetic recording medium into an electrical signal using the magnetoresistive effect. A resist pattern is formed by the lift-off method on the magnetoresistive film in such a fashion as to leave a region of the magnetoresistive film corresponding to the tracks of the magnetic recording medium. A magnetoresistive element is formed by ion milling leaving only the portion of the magnetoresistive film corresponding to the tracks. An insulating layer is formed on the resist pattern, on the upper surface region of the lower insulating film other than the portion thereof right under the magnetic domain controlling film reduced in thickness by ion milling, and on the upper surface region of the magnetic domain controlling film other than the portion thereof right under the magnetoresistive film. An electrode film is formed on the insulating layer, after which the resist pattern is removed. The insulating layer is contiguously deposited on the upper surface region formed in a thin layer of the lower insulating film and on a part of the upper surface region formed in a thin layer of the magnetic domain controlling film.

Magnetoresistive thin-film magnetic head and method of fabrication

In a magnetoresistive head, a domain suppressing layer is formed under each of opposite ends of a magnetoresistive film. The domain suppressing layer is composed of a first ferromagnetic film, an antiferromagnetic film and a second ferromagnetic film which are laminated one over another in this order. Since the spin distribution of the antiferromagnetic film is transmitted to the magnetoresistive film via the second ferromagnetic film, a stable longitudinal bias magnetic field can be achieved, irrespective of the degree of contamination of the surface of the ferromagnetic film.

A method of fabricating a thin film magnetic head including a bottom magnetic core formed on a substrate, a top magnetic core laminated through an insulation layer, with one end of the top and bottom magnetic cores being joined and another end forming a magnetic gap, and a conductor coil layer which winds around the joined section for a plurality of number of turns. At least one of the top and bottom magnetic cores has its magnetization easy axis oriented substantially orthogonal to the magnetic path direction of the magnetic head by the magnetic annealing process, so that the magnetic head has an increased output and an enhanced write ability.

Thin film magnetic head and the method of fabricating the same

A compound magnetic head includes first and second magnetic poles arranged to face each other to define a recording gap therebetween, a magnetic film arranged between the first and second magnetic poles, a first non-magnetic film arranged between the first magnetic pole and the magnetic film to define a first reproducing gap therebetween, and a second non-magnetic film arranged between the second magnetic pole and the magnetic pole to define a second reproducing gap therebetween. The recording gap and the first and second reproducing gaps have the same width and a common center line of the gap widths parallel to the direction of movement of a magnetic recording medium.
