An anti-skid braking device for use in a vehicle comprising a braking mechanism for supplying a braking force to a wheel of the vehicle, a moderator for moderating the braking force supplied from the braking mechanism to the wheel for a moderation time interval in a case where the acceleration relevant to the rotation of the wheel reaches a predetermined negative angular acceleration value during supply of the braking force to the wheel by the mechanism.

Braking device for use in vehicle

A vehicle braking system of the type including a pneumatic booster which includes a shell casing, a flexible diaphragm, a power piston connected to the diaphragm to define a constant pressure chamber and a variable pressure chamber in the shell casing, an input shaft, a valve mechanism provided in the power piston and associated with the input shaft to control the pressure in the variable pressure chamber, an output shaft receiving the output force from the power piston, and a reaction mechanism for transmitting reaction force of the output shaft to the input shaft. The booster further includes a control chamber, and a control piston partitioning the interior of the control chamber into a second constant pressure chamber and a second variable pressure chamber. The pressure in the second variable pressure chamber is controlled by a control mechanism in response to a predetermined operational condition of the vehicle, and the control piston is associated with the input shaft such that the control piston applies a force on the input shaft in the brake applying direction when the control piston is displaced.

Vehicle braking system

A mechanical disc brake, including a caliper supported on a stationary member to slide in the direction of the axis of rotation of a rotatable disc and straddling the circumference of the disc to define two limb portions on the opposite sides of the disc, a first friction pad being pressed against one surface of the disc by one of the limb portions, a second friction pad disposed so as to be opposed to the first friction pad and being pressed against another surface of the disc, a force converting mechanism provided in the other limb portion of the caliper for converting the rotation of a lever to thrust force pressing the second friction pad, a rod extending in the direction of the axis of the disc and threadingly engaging the force converting mechanism with one end thereof engaging the second friction pad, a spring retainer threadingly engaging the other end of the rod, and a coil spring acting between the spring retainer and the other limb portion of the caliper to bias the rod in the direction separating from the second friction pad. A projection is provided on the spring retainer for abutting in the circumferential direction one end of the coil spring, thereby controlling the rotation of the spring retainer with respect to the rod.

Mechanical disc brake

A disc brake including a caliper member slidably supported on a stationary member, at least one pin provided on either of the caliper member and a stationary member, and a guide member mounted on the other of the caliper member and the stationary member and slidably engaging with the pin. A guide portion provided on the other of the caliper member and the stationary member and detachably mounting the guide member. The guide member can be detached from the guide portion by displacing the guide member in a direction transverse to the axis of the pin.

Disc brake

A disk brake comprising a stationary member secured to a non-rotatable part of a vehicle, a caliper supported on the stationary member through a pin to displace toward and away from a rotatable disc, a friction pad supported on a stepped portion formed on the stationary member to displace toward and away from the rotatable disc, a piston provided in the caliper to act on the friction pad, and a guide bore formed in the stationary member to slidably receive therein the pin secured to the caliper. A dust boot is provided to cover and protect the gap between the pin and the guide bore, and one end of the dust boot secured to the stationary member has a projection projecting toward the stepped portion, thereby restricting the displacement of the friction pad separating from the disc.

Disc brake friction pad retaining means and guide seal

A disc brake including a stationary member secured to a non-rotatable part of a vehicle, and a friction pad disposed on each side of a rotatable disc. There is provided a wear warning piece one end of which is secured to the stationary member and the other end of which extends between the disc and a backing plate of the friction pad by a predetermined distance.

A floating caliper type disc brake including a caliper being slidably supported on a stationary member, a resilient member interposed between a sliding portion of the caliper and the stationary member, the caliper having a bridge portion extending over a portion of the circumference of a disc and a pawl portion rigidly connected to the bridge portion for acting on one of friction pads, and a pad spring interposed between the bridge portion of the caliper and friction pads. The improvement comprises in that a projection is formed on backing plate of the one friction pad, and a retaining portion is formed in the pawl portion of the caliper for engaging with the projection of the friction pad thereby receiving the biassing force of the pad spring.

Floating caliper type disc brake

A mechanically operated disc brake of the type including a caliper slidably supported in the axial direction of a disc and straddling a peripheral portion of the disc, a pair of friction pads one of which is urged against the disc by a limb of the caliper, a cavity formed in another limb of the caliper, a nut member mounted in the cavity and being adapted to receive a rotational input force, a converting mechanism received in the cavity for converting the rotational movement of the nut member into axial movement thereof, a rod member screw-threadingly engaging with the nut member with the inner end abutting with the other friction pad for urging the same against the disc, and a rotation control member for controlling rotation of the nut member. The cavity of the caliper has an inner cavity receiving therein the nut member and the converting mechanism, and an outer cavity partitioned from the inner cavity by an annular wall and receiving therein the rotation control member and a return spring which acts on the outer end of the rod member for biassing the rod member outwardly.

Mechanically operated disc brake

A mechanical disc brake includes a caliper floatingly supported on a stationary member, and a force converting mechanism mounted on the caliper and comprising a rotatable member rotatable in response to a rotary input force, an inclined surface formed on one side of the rotatable member, a ramp member disposed adjacent to the rotatable member with an inclined surface formed thereon for cooperating with the inclined surface of the rotatable member, and at least one ball member interposed between the inclined surfaces for reducing frictional resistance in converting the rotary input force into a linear output force. A dust cover is disposed to cover the ball and the inclined surfaces and has a first end mounted on the rotatable member and a second end mounted on the ramp member.

A disc brake of the type including a stationary supporting member, a pair of friction pads supported on the supporting member and slidable in the direction of the axis of a rotatable disc, a caliper supported on the supporting member and slidable in the direction of the axis of the disc, a piston provided in the caliper for acting on one of friction pads to urge it against one surface of the disc, and a pad spring disposed between the caliper and the friction pads. The other of the friction pads is mounted on the supporting member such that the pad can be removed from the supporting member by displacing the friction pad and the caliper on the supporting member a predetermined distance past the normal operational range. The pad spring engages with the supporting member and with the other friction pad thereby limiting the displacement of the other friction pad with respect to the supporting member.

Disc brake friction pad retaining structure

A mechanical disc brake includes a floating caliper having a pair of legs which are disposed on the opposite sides of a disc and one of which has an axial throughhole and the other of which has a friction pad facing one side of the disc. A support is secured to a vehicle and has a friction pad facing the other side of the disc. A bolt extends through the legs, a ramp is secured to the other leg against rotation, a rotational input receiving lever is secured to the one leg, a linear output generation member is secured to the lever for movement therewith, balls are disposed between the ramp and linear output generation members, a pawl member is secured to the lever for movement therewith and has pawls, a nut has ratchet teeth for engaging the pawls. A push rod applies the friction pad on the support against the other side of the disc, a spring has one end abutting against the other leg, and a sleeve has one end connected to the liner output generation member and the other end abutting against the other end of the spring.

An automatic shoe clearance adjusting device in a shoe drum brake of the type including a first strut member, a second strut member telescopically projecting from the first strut member, an adjusting nut rotatably mounted on the first strut member and engaging in screw threaded engagement with the second strut member, a member for rotating the adjusting nut in one direction, and a structure for controlling the rotation of the adjusting nut in the opposite direction. The rotation control structure is associated with a heat responsive element such that when the temperature in the brake exceeds a predetermined level, the adjustment of shoe clearance will not be effected.

Automatic shoe clearance adjusting device in shoe drum brake

An improved mechanical disc brake, of the type in which a rotational operating force applied to a nut member adjustably carrying a push rod is converted into linear axial movement of the nut member and push rod to cause the push rod to move a brake pad engaged thereby into braking engagement with the disc, is provided in which the nut member is floatingly mounted on the housing of the brake for minimizing the wear and other adverse effects of natural vibration of the housing, and in which there is a device for urging the nut member into a self-centering position for maintaining the push rod in optimum relationship with the associated brake pad. The improved brake construction also facilitates provision for proper dust covers, lessens the precision required in the manufacture of certain parts, and permits proper adjustment of the brake to be accomplished even after replacement of the brake pads. The improved construction employs an opposed groove and ball mounting of a flange portion of the nut member upon the associated leg portion of the housing and a spring device for biasing the position of the nut member relative to such leg portion of the housing, with there being no direct engagement between the nut member and such leg portion of the housing.

Mechanical disc brake including floating actuator

A floating caliper disc brake is provided with an improved device for shiftably mounting the housing on the support and for transmitting the lateral forces exerted on the housing during braking to the support, which is entirely independent of the relationship between the bolts interconnecting the caliper portions of the housing and the holes in the support through which they pass. Such bolts merely pass through the holes in the support loosely, so that the lateral forces generated by braking will not distort or bend such bolts and thereby also distort the housing or cause binding between the shiftable housing and the support. The improved housing mounting and force-transmitting device employs a pair of sleeve-like cylindrical guide projections oppositely extending from the sides of the support for each of the holes in the latter and respectively coaxial with such holes, and a pair of opposed cylindrical guide cavities in each of the spaced caliper portions of the housing and respectively coaxial with the holding bolts of the housing. Each of such projections is slidably received in a corresponding cavity to provide the required shiftable mounting of the housing upon the support and the required transmission of lateral forces generated by braking from the housing to the support, without damage to the housing or its caliper connecting bolts or malfunctioning due to binding.

Floating caliper-type disc brake

An improved disc brake of the type in which a rotatonal operating force is converted into a substantially linear braking force is provided with means for automatically adjusting the brake operating mechanism for normal wear of the brake pad means. The improved brake employs a housing straddling a brake disc and including a first half portion having a first friction pad secured thereto and a second half portion having a through hole; a push rod extending through the through hole and having one end abutting against a second friction pad and the other end provided with adjusting threads; a substantially cylindrical nut extending through the through hole and having at one end an enlarged diameter flange provided with ratchet teeth and at the other end a spring abutment portion, the nut having the threaded inner surface in threaded engagement with said adjusting threads of the push rod; a spring abutting at one end against the second half portion of the housing and at the other end against the spring abutment portion of the nut for normally biasing the nut away from the disc; a movement conversion mechanism provided in the second half portion of the housing and adapted to convert a rotational movement into a linear movement; and a brake lever for imparting a rotational movement to the movement conversion mechanism and a pawl member integrally secured to the brake lever for engaging the ratchet teeth.
