An object of the present invention is to provide fluorescent lamps used as a light source for liquid crystal display devices, which have excellent characteristics in terms of preventing solarization, the properties for blocking ultraviolet rays, and the physical and thermal strength, and preventing scratching. The present invention provides fluorescent lamps made of glass containing 55.0% to 75.0% of SiO; 10.0% to 25.0% of BO; 1.0% to 10.0% of AlO; 0% to 3.8% of NaO; 0% to 3.0% of LiO; 3.0% to 10.0% of KO; 3.2% to 16.0% of NaO+LiO+KO; 0.5% to 8% of TiO; 0.1% to 5% of CeO; 0.6% to 8.1% of TiO+CeO; 0.001% to 0.05% of FeO; 0% to 0.7% of SbO; 0.1% to 3.0% of SnO; and 0.5% to 10.0% of at least one rare earth element selected from the group consisting of Gd, Y, La, Yb and Lu by weight, and is characterized in that the coefficient of linear expansion in a temperature range of 30&#xb0; C. to 380&#xb0; C. is 34&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C. to 58&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C.

The present invention aims at maintaining the high focusing performance at a low deflection power in a single-beam projection tube which is used as a projection type TV receiver or a projector and is operated at a high voltage and with a high current. The neck outer diameter of a portion on which a deflection yoke is mounted is made smaller than the neck outer diameter of a portion which accommodates an electron gun. A projection tube having a high focusing performance at a low deflection power includes a funnel, a neck portion and a stem portion which seals the neck portion. The neck portion of the projection tube includes a first neck portion which is connected to the funnel and has a first neck outer diameter, and also includes a second neck portion which accommodates an electron gun and has a second neck outer diameter which is larger than the first neck outer diameter.

A single-tube type projection display with high light efficiency includes phosphors of three primary colors formed on upper, middle and lower portions of a faceplate of a CRT. A projection picture tube includes a bulb, a sealing chamber disposed in contact with a front surface of a phosphor screen panel of the bulb and sealed with a liquid coolant, and a holding mechanism for holding the sealing chamber by the bulb. The sealing chamber includes a transparent member disposed in front of the phosphor screen panel to be spaced apart therefrom, a heat dissipation member which is disposed between the transparent member and the phosphor screen panel and part of which is in contact with the liquid coolant sealed in the sealing chamber, seal members respectively disposed between the heat dissipation member and the phosphor screen panel and between the heat dissipation member and the transparent member, and a holding piece for holding the transparent member on the heat dissipation member. The holding mechanism is coupled to the heat dissipation member.
