The present invention is objected to polish the surface of the object material with a high quality at a high polishing rate. The object surface is polished using a wet polishing method. Slurry is produced by scattering abrasive particles into pure water. In the abrasive particle, where components which has a mechanochemical effect and which reacts to the friction heat generated in polishing the object material are joined with each other and integrated to a particle. There, respective component is joined with each other using a mechanical alloying process, while maintaining the inherent material properties. When the slurry is used in a lapping process of sapphire, silicon carbide, gallium nitride and the like, the polishing process can be substantially shortened and the processing cost is drastically reduced. Further, it secures a high quality of the polishing surface. The abrasive particle can be used repeatedly in the polishing process. Since the pH value of the slurry is around 3 to 9, it does not deteriorate working environment and the liquid-waste treatment is easy.

A refrigerating apparatus employs a mixture of coolants and a coolant controller for controlling a ratio between the coolants to adjust refrigerating capacity during a refrigerating operation. The apparatus has a compressor whose revolution speed is controlled to provide required refrigerating capacity. When the revolution speed of the compressor decreases below a lower set value or rises above an upper set value, the coolant controller controls the ratio between the coolants.

An air conditioner employs a refrigerating cycle in which a non-azeotropic mixture of high and low boiling coolants is sealed. The ratio between the high and low boiling coolants of the coolant mixture changes according to a change in the opening of an electric expansion valve 7. A level sensor 19 is arranged in an accumulator 17 that accumulates the liquid phase of the coolant mixture. A value detected by the level sensor is used to calculate the ratio between the high and low boiling coolants actually circulating in the refrigerating cycle. According to the opening of the valve 7 or the ratio between the actual quantities of the high and low boiling coolants, basic operation parameters such as the operation frequency of a compressor 1 are changed. This results in stabilizing and optimizing the operation of the refrigerating cycle even if a cycle temperature or pressure is changed due to a change in the ratio between the high and low boiling coolants of the coolant mixture.

The air conditioning apparatus for use with cycle dry, includes: an outdoor heat exchanger; a fan unit for blowing air to the outdoor heat exchanger; an adjusting portion, connected to the outdoor heat exchanger, for adjusting flow rate of refrigerant; a first indoor heat exchanger and a second heat exchanger connected to the adjusting means; a compressor which is connected both to the indoor heat exchanger and the outdoor heat exchanger, and which is controllable by an inverter unit; a detecting portion for detecting temperature and humidity indoors; and a cross control system for determining rotation frequencies of the fan unit and the inverter unit by comparing data obtained from the detecting portion with predetermined values of temperature and humidity indoors.

A high-voltage generator employing a piezoelectric transformer has an inverter having input and output terminals connected to input terminals of the piezoelectric transformer, respectively; a feedback resistor connected to the input terminals of the piezoelectric transformer in parallel with the inverter; and first and second capacitors. The first capacitor is connected between the input terminal of the inverter and a ground. The second capacitor is connected between the output terminal of the inverter and the ground. The inverter, feedback resistor, and capacitors form a self-exciting oscillator to drive the piezoelectric transformer so that the piezoelectric transformer produces a high-voltage output. Since the inverter, feedback resistor, and capacitors are small, thin and light, the high-voltage generator as a whole is also small, thin and light.

A compressor has a motor and a compressor mechanism connected to the motor. The motor has a coil and is lubricated with lubricant. The compressor mechanism sucks and compresses low-pressure coolant and discharges high-pressure coolant. The compressor comprises a unit for preheating the lubricant, and a unit for detecting line-to-line impedance of the coil of the motor to know the quantity of a mixture of liquified coolant and the lubricant, and controlling activation of the preheating unit and of the compressor according to a result of the detection.
