Quenchers of the related art do not have a quenching ability high enough to sufficiently inhibit the emission of fluorescence from fluorescence compounds. Therefore, the present invention aims to provide a quencher which can sufficiently quench the fluorescence from fluorescent compounds including xanthene-based dyes. The present invention relates to a quencher formed of a compound represented by the following general formula (1), and the like.

A reverse photochromic compound of the related art has difficulty in sensing light with a wavelength of 600 nm or greater in a visible light region which has been used for medical applications. Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a reverse photochromic compound and a polymer which have a high sensitivity to light having a wavelength of 600 nm or greater. The present invention relates to a compound and the like represented by the following general formula (1).  In the formula, Rand Reach independently represent a hydrogen atom or the like, R, R, and Reach independently represent an alkyl group or the like, Rrepresents a group having a polymerizable unsaturated group, a carboxy group, or an alkoxycarbonyl group, Rand Reach independently represent an alkoxy group or the like, Rand Reach independently represent a hydrogen atom or the like, Yrepresents an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, Anrepresents an anion, nto nrepresent a specific integer, and Rand R, Rand R, and/or Rand Rmay form an alkylene group.

A quencher is disclosed having a compound represented by the following general formula (1): wherein Reach independently represent a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkylthio group, an amino group having a substituent or not having a substituent, a hydroxy group, an aryl group, an aryloxy group, or an arylalkyl group; Rrepresents a group having a polymerizable unsaturated group, a hydroxy group, or the like; Yrepresents an oxygen atom, or the like; Anrepresents an anion; Arrepresents a specific ring structure; * and ** represent binding positions; Arrepresents a benzene ring, a naphthalene ring, or an anthracene ring; nrepresents a specific integer;and the following structure (1-10) in the general formula (1) is an asymmetric structure; (wherein R, Y, Ar, Ar, n, * and ** are the same as described above.).
