A pneumatic tire comprises a carcass comprised of at least one carcass ply containing a steel cord(s) arranged at a cord angle of 70-90&#xb0; with respect to an equatorial plane of the tire and toroidally extending between a pair of bead cores and turned up around the bead core inward or outward in a radial direction to form a turnup portion, wherein a wrap part wrapping on a peripheral face of the bead core therealong is formed in the turnup portion of the carcass ply.

A pneumatic tire comprises a carcass comprised of at least one carcass ply containing a steel cord(s) arranged at a cord angle of 70&#x2013;90&#xb0; with respect to an equatorial plane of the tire and toroidally extending between a pair of bead cores and turned up around the bead core inward or outward in a radial direction to form a turnup portion, wherein a wrap part wrapping on a peripheral face of the bead core therealong is formed in the turnup portion of the carcass ply.

To prevent bead displacement under heavy load or to improve bead durability without increasing tire weight and decreasing tire productivity, the carcass is sandwiched between two reinforcing layers near the bead in such a way that metallic cords of the carcass and the two reinforcing layers, extending in three different directions, provide a triangular reinforcement structure. The radial distance H.sub.1 of the first reinforcing layer from the rim is 0.3 to 0.7 H (where H denotes a radial distance between the rim and the maximum tire width position); the radial distance H.sub.2 of the first reinforcing layer is 0.25 to 0.6 H; the radial distance H.sub.3 between H.sub.1 and H.sub.2 is 0.05 H or more; and the radial overlap distance .alpha. between two reinforcing layers is 0.1 H or more. Further, the overlap length l between the two layers is 0.25 L or more (where L denotes the width of the first reinforcing layer).

A pneumatic radial tire comprising a belt portion disposed between the tread portion and the carcass portion wherein the belt portion is constituted by at least a pair of first belts, a second belt and a third belt which are arranged from radially inward to outward, the first, second and third belts having a first series, second series and third series of parallel cords embedded therein, respectively. The first belts being laterally spaced apart a predetermined lateral space symmetrically with respect to the mid-circumferential centerline and the cords thereof are disposed at an angle of between 40 to 60 degrees with respect to the mid-circumferential centerline. The spaced-apart first belts have opposite lateral ends which are located within less than 5 percent of a belt width of the third belt from the corresponding opposite lateral ends of the third belt, respectively. The first series of the cords of the first belt and the second series of the cords of the second belt are oriented in same directions, while the second series of the cords of the second belt and the third series of the cords of the third belt are oriented in opposite directions with each other.
