The present invention provides a process for producing an &#x3b1;-olefin polymer comprising polymerizing or copolymerizing (a) Cor higher &#x3b1;-olefin(s) in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising solid titanium catalyst component (I) containing titanium, magnesium, halogen, and a compound with a specific structure having two or more ether linkages and organometallic catalyst component (II) with high catalytic activity. In this process, particularly even in (co)polymerizing (a) higher olefin(s), demineralization is unnecessary. A 4-methyl-1-pentene-based polymer obtained by polymerization using the catalyst of the present invention is excellent in tacticity, transparency, heat resistance, and releasability, and the polymer is particularly suitable for a release film.

Ethylene polymer particles having an intrinsic viscosity [&#x3b7;] of 5 dl/g to 30 dl/g, a degree of crystallinity of as high as 80% or more, and a specific shape on the surface of the particles. The ethylene polymer particles can be obtained by carrying out polymerization of olefins including ethylene using an olefin polymerization catalyst containing a solid titanium catalyst component including magnesium, halogen and titanium under specific conditions. The ethylene polymer particles obtained by a solid phase method, such as solid phase drawing molding, are capable of providing a molded article with high strength.

Ethylene polymer particle having specific intrinsic viscosity and crystallinity, production method thereof and molded article using the same

An ethylene (co)polymer of the present invention is a (co)polymer with excellent moldability and mechanical properties and either an ethylene homopolymer or a copolymer of ethylene and an &#x3b1;-olefin of 4 to 20 carbon atoms. The (co)polymer has methyl branches measured byC-NMR less than 0.1 in number per 1,000 carbon atoms and Mw/Mn measured by GPC not lower than 1.8 and lower than 4.5. The (co)polymer is either an ethylene homopolymer or a copolymer of ethylene and an &#x3b1;-olefin of 3 to 20 carbon atoms. The melt tension (MT) and the swell ratio (SR) satisfy the relation; log(MT)&#x3e;12.9&#x2212;7.15&#xd7;SR; and the intrinsic viscosity ([&#x3b7;]) and the melt flow rate (MFR) satisfy the relation; [&#x3b7;]&#x3e;1.85&#xd7;MFRin the case of MFR&#x3c;1 and the relation; [&#x3b7;]&#x3e;1.85&#xd7;MFRin the case of MFR&#x2267;1. Such an ethylene (co)polymer can be usable for various molding applications and especially suitable for pipes.

Ethylene (co) polymer and its use

An ethylene (co)polymer of the present invention is a (co)polymer with excellent moldability and mechanical properties and either an ethylene homopolymer or a copolymer of ethylene and an &#x3b1;-olefin of 4 to 20 carbon atoms. The (co)polymer has methyl branches measured byC-NMR less than 0.1 in number per 1,000 carbon atoms and Mw/Mn measured by GPC not lower than 1.8 and lower than 4.5. Such an ethylene (co)polymer can be usable for various molding applications and especially suitable for pipes.

Ethylene (co)polymers and uses thereof

An olefin polymerization catalyst having a high polymerization activity at high temperatures and a process for olefin polymerization using the catalyst are disclosed. The olefin polymerization catalyst comprises a transition metal compound which is represented by the following formula (I) and in which the net charge parameter of the central metal is not more than 2.00:wherein M is a transition metal atom of Group 4 to Group 5 of the periodic table, m is an integer of 1 to 5, Q is &#x2014;N&#x2550; or &#x2014;C(R)&#x2550;, A is &#x2014;O&#x2014;, &#x2014;S&#x2014;, &#x2014;Se&#x2014; or &#x2014;N(R)&#x2014;, Ris an aliphatic hydrocarbon group or an alicyclic hydrocarbon group, Rto Rare each a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, an oxygen-containing group or the like, n is a number satisfying a valence of M, and X is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydrocarbon group or the like.

Olefin polymerization catalyst and process for olefin polymerization using the olefin polymerization catalyst

An olefin polymer production method is provided by which olefin polymers can be obtained at high polymerization activity under the conditions of reduced hydrogen concentration. Silyl-terminated olefin polymers may be obtained by this method. The olefin is polymerized using a catalyst of a transition metal compound (A) of Groups 3 to 10 of the periodic table, at least one compound (B) selected from organoaluminum oxycompounds (B-1), compounds (B-2) that react with the abovementioned compound (A) to form an ion pair, and organoaluminum compounds (B-3), under the coexistence of an organosilicon compound (C) or dialkylzinc compound (D) and in the presence or absence of hydrogen (E).

Process for producing olefin polymer and olefin polymers

A rubber composition useful as a tire side wall or tire tread is formed from an unsaturated olefin copolymer (A) or (A&prime;) and diene rubber (B). Copolymers (A) and (A&prime;) are each obtained from (i) ethylene, (ii) aromatic vinyl compound, (iii) non-conjugated polyene, and, optionally (iv) alpha-olefin having at least 3 carbon atoms. When used in forming a tire side wall, copolymer (A) has a molar ratio of (i)/(iv) from 100/0 to 40/60; molar ratio of &lsqb;((i)&plus;(iv))/(ii)&rsqb; from 98/2 to 60/40; an intrinsic viscosity, measured in decalin, at 135&deg; C., from 1.0 to 6.0 dl/g; and iodine value from 10 to 50. For use in tire tread, copolymer (A&prime;), has a molar ratio (i)/(iv) from 100/0 to 40/60; molar ratio &lsqb;((i)&plus;(iv)):(ii)&rsqb; from 99/1 to 85/15. The weight ratio (A&prime;)/(B) is from 1/99 to 50/50. The compositions for tire side wall are characterized by excellent strength properties and bending fatigue resistance and low fuel consumption. The compositions for tire tread are characterized by superior strength properties, abrasion resistance and braking performance on wet road (wet ski resistance) and small rolling resistance.

Rubber compositions for tires

A low-bulk density solid aluminoxane has an average particle diameter of 210 to 10,000 &mgr;m and a bulk density of from 0.01 to 1.0 g/cc. Representative solid aluminoxanes may be prepared from polymethylaluminoxane or mixed alkyl group aluminoxanes. The solid aluminoxanes are useful as catalyst carriers. When used to support a metallocene, the combination may be used, for example, as catalyst for olefin polymerization Also disclosed is a prepolymerized catalyst having an average particle diameter of from 500 to 5,000 &mgr;m, useful for olefin polymerization. An olefin is pre-polymerized in the presence of a metallocene catalyst component and a solid low bulk-density aluminoxane and, optionally, an organoaluminum compound.

Solid aluminoxane for catalyst carrier, process for preparing the same, and uses thereof

A high-performance prepolymerized solid catalyst is prepared by polymerizing an olefin onto an olefin polymerization catalyst in a heterogeneous system under irradiation with an elastic wave, wherein the olefin is prepolymerized in an amount of not less than 0.1 g based on 1 mmol of a transition metal contained in the olefin polymerization catalyst. The elastic wave is preferably an ultrasonic wave. In a process for heterogeneous polymerization of an olefin, an olefin is subjected to slurry polymerization or gas phase polymerization in the presence of the prepolymerized solid catalyst. In a process for heterogeneous polymerization of an olefin, an olefin may be polymerized onto the olefin polymerization catalyst in a heterogeneous system under irradiation with an elastic wave to prepare polyolefin. Therefore, the heterogeneous polymerization of an olefin can be stably conducted and polyolefins of uniform property and high quality can be obtained.

A process for olefin polymerization, including polymerizing or copolymerizing an olefin in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst composed of: a fine particle carrier; (A) a transition metal compound of a Group IVB metal of the periodic table, containing a ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton; (B) an aluminoxane compound; and optionally (C) an organoaluminum compound, wherein said aluminoxane compound has an alkyl groups to aluminum ratio of 1.3 to 2.1; said transition metal compound (A) and said organoaluminum oxy-compound (B) and said organoaluminum compound being supported on the fine particle carrier; and said solid catalyst having a bulk density of 0.3 g/cm.sup.3 to 0.5 g/cm.sup.3 and a fluidity index of 45 to 70 and an olefin polymerization process using the olefin polymerization catalyst; and an olefin prepolymerized catalyst obtained by prepolymerizing the catalyst, and an olefin polymerization process using the olefin prepolymerized catalyst. The olefin polymerization process produces a polymer showing excellent particle properties and an olefin polymer which does not stick to the wall of the polymerization reactor.

A high-performance prepolymerized solid catalyst is prepared by polymerizing an olefin onto an olefin polymerization catalyst in a heterogeneous system under irradiation with an elastic wave, wherein the olefin is prepolymerized in an amount of not less than 0.1 g based on 1 mmol of a transition metal contained in the olefin polymerization catalyst. The elastic wave is preferably an ultrasonic wave.

A solid olefin polymerization catalyst comprising: a fine particle carrier; (A) a transition metal compound of a Group IVB metal of the periodic table, containing a ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton; (B) an organoaluminum oxy-compound; and optionally (C) an organoaluminum compound, wherein said organoaluminum oxy-compound has an alkyl to aluminum ratio of 1.3 to 2.1; said transition metal compound (A) and said organoaluminum oxy-compound (B) and said organoaluminum compound being supported on the fine particle carrier; and said solid catalyst having a bulk density of 0.3 g/cm.sup.3 to 0.5 g/cm.sup.3 and a fluidity index of 45 to 70 and an olefin polymerization process using the olefin polymerization catalyst; and an olefin prepolymerized catalyst obtained by prepolymerizing the catalyst, and an olefin polymerization process using the olefin prepolymerized catalyst. The olefin polymerization catalyst and the olefin prepolymerization catalyst when used to carry out the polymerization of olefins hardly produces a fine-powdery polymer and a polymer showing excellent particle properties can be obtained. Moreover, the resulting olefin polymer does not stick to the wall of the polymerization reactor.
