A connector apparatus which assures sufficient fitting of a pair of connectors with each other. The connector apparatus includes a pair of connectors, and a fixing frame having a through-hole defined by a pair of side walls thereof along which the connectors are movable in a fitting direction and in a direction perpendicular to the fitting direction. A guide mechanism including pins on each of the connectors and pin receiving guideways in the fixing frame guides the connectors after the connectors are inserted into the through-hole of the fixing frame from the opposite ends toward each other until they are partially fitted with each other and then causes the connectors to gradually approach and fit together until a thoroughly fitted condition is reached.

Connector apparatus

A switch connector assembly with a waterproof structure which prevents admission of water thereinto without certainty and complete fitting between male and female connectors can be confirmed readily. The female connector has a short-circuiting terminal extending into a connector fitting chamber thereof and further has a temporary arresting projection and a flexible locking arm having a final arresting projection thereon. The male connector has a connecting terminal, a flexible engaging pawl, and an engaging portion. The short-circuiting terminal and the connecting terminal are kept out of contact with each other when the temporary arresting projection is fitted with the flexible engaging pawl, but contact with each other when the final arresting projection is fitted with the engaging portion. A sliding seal is provided on an outer periphery of the male connector and is engaged, upon insertion of the male connector into the connector fitting chamber, with the inner wall of the connector fitting chamber simultaneously with fitting of the temporary arresting projection and the flexible engaging pawl with each other.

In a connector, a locking connection detection member is beforehand attached to a rear portion of a male connector housing and is retained thereto by resilient retaining pieces of the locking connection detection member in such a manner that the locking connection detection member is extended rearwardly from the male connector housing. Engagement release projections for the resilient retaining pieces are provided on the female connector housing so that when the male and female connector housing are completely connected together with the lock arm engaged with the engagement portion, the engagement release projections release the retaining of the resilient retaining piece, thereby enabling the removal of the locking connection detection member. According to this arrangement, a complete connection of a connector can be detected easily.

Disclosed is a connector assembly, which includes a first housing having a first surface which is level and parallel to a longitudinal direction; a second housing adapted to be received within the first housing and movable longitudinally relative to the first housing between an initial position and an inserted position; at least one pair of terminals aligned in parallel to the longitudinal direction and being mounted in the first and the second housings; a shift member provided on the first housing so as to be shiftable between a first position and a second position in parallel to the first surface of the first housing; and interengaging mechanism adapted to be associated between the second housing and the shift member. The terminals are engaged with each other when being axially moved toward each other in accordance with movement of the housings into the inserted position. The shift member is locked in the first position by locking mechanism. When the second housing lies in the initial position, the lock is released by releasing mechanism by means of the insertion action of the second housing in order to shift the shift member into the second position. When the shift member lies in the second position, the second housing is allowed to move longitudinally in the first housing, then the shift member is allowed to shift from the second position to the first position while associating the interengaging mechanism. The interengaging mechanism including a slot and a follower member being received by the slot movably within the slot.

Connector assembly

A female connector, normally inserted into a mounting panel, is provided with projections which correspond to receptive portions provided in a grommet which covers the connector. The receptive portions may include rigid members disposed therein to facilitate mating with the projections. Where a male connector is provided on the other side of the mounting panel, and is connected with the female connector through an insertion hole in the mounting panel, the male connector may be provided with similar projections, and a grommet for the connector may be provided with respective receptive portions.

Erroneous insertion of a press-connecting terminal is detected, either electrically or mechanically, by providing a piece either on a rear portion of a base plate of an electrical connector, or on a wire-press connecting portion disposed behind an electric contact portion which is provided at a front end of the base plate. The erroneous insertion-detecting piece is formed in accordance with a size of the press-connecting terminal.

Device for detecting erroneous insertion of insulation displacement

A connector apparatus which assures sufficient fitting of a pair of connectors with each other. The connector apparatus comprises a pair of connectors and a fixing frame having a through-hole defined by a pair of side walls thereof along which the connectors are movable in a fitting direction and then in a slantwise or inclined direction. A guide mechanism is provided which guides the connectors as they are moved to a predetermined position in the inclined direction after the connectors are inserted into the through-hole of the fixing frame from the opposite ends toward each other until they are partially fitted with each other. The guide mechanism causes one of the connectors to gradually approach and fit with the other connector until a throughly fitted condition is reached. Only when the connectors are at the predetermined position, a flexible grommet for the one connector can be fixed by way of a fixing element to a panel or the like to which the fixing frame is secured.
