An information recording medium and an information reproducing apparatus for use therewith for putting information into a system easily and quickly. The information recording medium records, in units of blocks, reproduction data such as voice data, image data and text data as well as reproduction data management information including address information and continuous reproduction information. The address information is built in a layered structure to designate addresses at which the reproduction data are stored. The continuous reproduction information specifies any one of two ways, i.e., continuously or selectively, in which to reproduce the reproduction data. The information reproducing apparatus comprises discriminating means for discriminating the continuous reproduction information in each block, and reproducing means for reproducing the reproduction data in units of blocks continuously or selectively depending on the result of the discrimination by the discriminating means.

A CD-ROM disc reproducing apparatus of the present invention includes a memory for storing progression data of a program that plays and controls a CD-ROM disc, a power supply switch and a book marker switch. The memory sequentially stores therein progression data of the program. When the playback control of the CD-ROM disc is directly stopped by the power supply switch, the contents of the memory are not saved. However, when the playback control of the CD-ROM disc is stopped by the book marker switch or when the playback control of the CD-ROM disc is interrupted unintentionally, the progression data of the program are saved by the memory. Then, when the playback control of the CD-ROM disc is resumed, the content stored in the memory is accessed and the playback control state of the CD-ROM disc can be recovered to the state presented at a timing point that the playback control state of the CD-ROM disc is interrupted. Thus, even if the power switch is turned off by a particular key because of an urgent business or even if the power switch is turned off by force when the door is unintentionally opened, when the playback is resumed, the playback of the CD-ROM disc is resumed from the operation state presented at a timing point in which the playback is interrupted.

A pickup feeding apparatus is comprised of a first rack provided on a pickup supporting member supported so as to become movable along a guide shaft, a second rack provided slidably relative to the first rack, a drive force transmitting gear for transmitting a driving force of a driving source to the first and second racks, a spring member for spring-biasing one of the first and second racks to the other along the guide shaft of the first and second racks in such a direction that gear teeth of a gear of the drive force transmitting means which are meshed with the first and second racks are gripped. A disc player is also disclosed, in which a disc drive motor and a pickup feeding motor are provided on the same chassis and the disc drive motor is located on the chassis at the position above the pickup moving locus fed by the pickup feeding device.

Miniaturized disc player

A disc chucking unit for supporting a disc loaded on a disc table for rotation in unison with the disc table is constituted by the disc table on which a disc is placed and which is rotationally driven by a rotating driving unit, a fitting member arranged at the center of the disc table and fitted into a central opening of the disc, and a plurality of ball-shaped member reciprocably mounted in the fitting member. These ball-shaped members are biased outwardly from the fitting member by an elastic element for thrusting the disc placed on the disc table towards the disc table, so that the disc may be loaded in a centered and offset-free state on the disc table despite the small-sized and simplified construction of the chucking unit.
