A booklet making method includes: cutting a web of paper on one side and on another side into first and second continuous sheets, alternately bonding the first and second continuous sheets widthwise with a setting paste and a throwaway paste to form a double set continuous sheet of paper, and cutting the double set continuous sheet of paper into split double sheets of a selected longitudinal length. A plurality of split double sheets is integrally bound with an integrating paste to form a booklet-like product. Portions of the booklet-like product which are pasted and bonded with the throwaway paste are cut off to provide a plurality of booklets. Thus, by the booklet making method, booklets having an odd number of leaves or pages are formed without waste of paper and with reduced paper jams.

Booklet making method and apparatus

An apparatus for making a booklet-like product comprises a paper feeding part; a superposing part for superposing a plurality of continuous webs of paper fed to travel from the paper feeding part, whereby a layered continuous sheet of paper is prepared; a cutting part for cutting the layered continuous sheet into successive separate layered sheets of paper; a conveyance passage; and a stacking and ejection part for causing the separate layered sheets traveling along the conveyance passage to be piled every predetermined number thereof and to be ejected in the form of piles of sheets, each to form the booklet-like product. The superposing part is provided with a paste nozzle for applying paste to one of two adjacent such continuous webs of paper on its one side and a further paste nozzle for applying paste to the upper surface of the layered continuous sheet.

Apparatus for making a booklet-like product

A rotary press is provided that prevents a print from contamination with a color different from a printing color. The rotary press comprising a printing unit made of a set of printing cylinders such as plate and blanket cylinders or plate and impression cylinders for printing paper; and a dryer disposed downstream of the printing unit for drying the paper printed, has a guide roller included therein for guiding the printed paper from the printing unit into the dryer wherein the guide roller has a diameter which is equal to, or a an integral multiple of, a diameter of a printing cylinder in the printing unit and is adapted to rotate synchronously with the printing cylinder and at a peripheral speed that is identical to that at which the printing cylinder is rotated.
