A fiber planted steel sheet obtained by forming only a fiber planting layer having excellent adhesion to a substrate made from a composition having special composition on the surface of a surface treated steel sheet as a substrate without forming a primer of a polyester synthetic resin containing an anticorrosive pigment and the like and electrostatically planting short fibers in the planting layer. Therefore, the electrostatically fiber planted steel sheet is produced by coating an aqueous adhesive composition for planting fibers comprising an emulsion resin having a glass transition temperature of &#x2212;40 to 40&#xb0; C., aqueous coloring pigment dispersion, defoamer and pH modifier on the surface of the surface treated steel sheet to form a fiber planting layer having excellent adhesion to the steel sheet on the surface of the steel sheet and electrostatically planting short fibers while the surface of the planting layer retains adhesion.

Electrostatically fiber planted steel sheet and production process therefor

An electrostatic flocking operation of a workpiece () is advantageously performed in a condition in which the moisture content of an adhesive layer formed on a surface of the workpiece () is kept at a favorable value by a humidifier (). The humidifier () is provided between an electrostatic flocking chamber and an adhesive applicator which is disposed in the upstream side of the electrostatic flocking chamber. In the humidifier (), a current of a moisture bearing air () is driven upon the adhesive layer of the workpiece ().

Electrostatic flocking chamber for forming electrostatic flocking apparatus

In order to obtain an evenly flocked and an evenly coated surface of a strip-like elongated workpiece, any slack of the strip-like elongated workpiece is removed not to affect the workpiece when the workpiece travels through an electrostatic flocking and an electrostatic coating chamber at high speed. A slack of the workpiece occurs due to its own weight under the influence of gravity when the workpiece travels through the electrostatic flocking and the electrostatic coating chamber at high speed. A V-shaped oblique surface portion of the workpiece is forcibly defined by a pressure roller in a position corresponding to that of the slack of the strip-like elongated workpiece. An electrode is disposed in parallel to the workpiece's V-shaped oblique surface portion defined by the pressure roller.
