A supply and return air plenum unit for duct air-conditioning systems includes a return air inlet and a supply air outlet defined in a case in vertical juxtaposition, the supply air outlet having an opening located at a front lower corner of the case. A blow-off grill is disposed in the opening of the supply air outlet and is angularly moved by an actuator for varying the direction of supply air within a range between the horizontal and the vertical.

An air conditioning system includes a first indoor unit having a heat exchanger separating the inside space of a case in which air drawn from an air inlet is passed through the heat exchanger and then discharged from a plurality of air outlets, and a second indoor unit having no heat exchanger and connected with one of the air outlets via an intake duct. With this construction, the air to be distributed to a plurality of rooms is cooled or heated by a common heat exchanger. The air conditioning system thus constructed can be installed easily and has a relatively small number of structural components.

An indoor unit for room air conditioners includes a case having two compartments which are separated by a heat exchanger and are connected respectively to an air inlet and an air outlet. With this construction, the indoor unit can be installed in various houses or buildings of different types and hence is suitable for mass-production.
