A magnetic head slider includes a magnetic head mounting surface, a slider rail surface, a step air bearing surface, and a negative pressure groove. The magnetic head mounting surface is arranged in a center area with respect to a width of the slider near an air flow-out edge on the slider and mounts a magnetic head. The slider rail surface has a first depth from the magnetic head mounting surface and its width on an air flow-in side for the magnetic head is wider that its width on an air flow-out side for the magnetic head. The step air bearing surface is formed on an air flow-in side of the slider rail surface and has a second depth from the slider rail surface. The negative-pressure groove which formed on an air flow-in side of the step air bearing surface and has a third depth from the step air bearing surface.

Magnetic disk device and magnetic head slider

A magnetic disk device includes a magnetic disk, and a magnetic head slider. The slider has a magnetic head, a plurality of surfaces which are formed sequentially from an adjacent side to a magnetic disk, and a slider rail surface which is arranged near an air flow-out edge on a nearest surface of the plurality of surfaces. The slider rail surface includes a long sideways rail surface on an air flow-in side and a lengthwise rail surface on an air flow-out side. The nearest surface of the plurality of surfaces is arranged only in a center area with respect to a width of the slider near the air flow-out edge and has a width substantially less than the width of the slider. An area of the long sideways rail surface is larger than an area of the lengthwise rail surface.

A magnetic disk device, which is provided with a magnetic head slider mounted with a magnetic head and a magnetic disk, and of which the magnetic head slider has the possibility of contacting the magnetic disk at the vicinity of the magnetic head. The magnetic head slider has the size of 1.25 mm or less in length, 1 mm or less in width and 0.3 mm or less in thickness, and the friction force exerted between the magnetic head slider and the magnetic disk is 10 mN or less. The magnetic head comprises four substantially parallel surfaces and the depth from a first surface which is the most adjacent surface to the magnetic disk to a second surface is 10 nm to 50 nm, the depth from the second surface to a third surface is 50 nm to 200 nm, and the depth from the third surface to a fourth surface is 400 nm to 1 &mgr;m.

A magnetic head slider having a plurality of surfaces which are formed sequentially from an adjacent side to a magnetic disk, and a slider rail surface, which is arranged near an air flow-out edge on a nearest surface of the plurality of surfaces including a long sideways rail surface on an air flow-in side and a lengthwise rail surface on an air flow-out side, has a magnetic head. An area of the long sideways rail surface is larger than an area of the lengthwise rail surface.

A magnetic disk device having a magnetic disk, a magnetic head slider with a magnetic head mounted thereon and having a first surface, a second surface, a third surface and a fourth surface which are formed sequentially from an adjacent side to the magnetic disk, and a gap of a magnetic head arranged on the first surface. A relation of d <d <d is established where d is a depth from the first surface to the second surface, d is a depth from the second surface to the third surface, and d is a depth from the third surface to the fourth surface. The magnetic head slider has a floating pitch attitude of at least 50 micro-radians with respect to the magnetic disk.

A magnetic disk device is provided with a magnetic head slider mounted with a magnetic head and a magnetic disk, and the magnetic head slider has the possibility of contacting the magnetic disk at the vicinity of the magnetic head during operation of the magnetic disk device. The magnetic head slider is 1.25 mm or less in length, 1 mm or less in width and 0.3 mm or less in thickness, and the friction force exerted between the magnetic head slider and the magnetic disk is 10 mN or less. The magnetic head comprises four substantially parallel surfaces, and the depth from a first surface, which is the most adjacent surface to the magnetic disk, to a second surface is 10 nm to 50 nm, the depth from the second surface to a third surface is 50 nm to 200 nm, and the depth from the third surface to a fourth surface is 400 nm to 1 &mgr;m.

A magnetic head slider assembly for a magnetic disk type recording/reproducing apparatus includes a slider body, a sliding pad provided on the slider body and projecting beyond a disk facing surface thereof, a thin film layer disposed at one end of the slider body, a magnetic head constituted by the thin film layer as an integral part thereof, and a core pad projection incorporating therein a core of the magnetic head and projecting beyond an adjacent disk facing surface of the slider body. The sliding pad is provided at a region of the slider body ahead of the core pad projection and prevents generation of a floating force by making use of a relative movement between the slider body and the magnetic disk. The core pad projection is not formed as a continuation of the slider body and is separated from the sliding pad a predetermined distance longitudinally of the slider body by a recess interposed therebetween whereby the core pad projection is positioned closer to the magnetic disk than a back end of the sliding pad.

Magnetic head slider assembly for magnetic disk recording/reproducing apparatus

Three pads are disposed on the surface of a magnetic head facing to a storage medium and are brought into contact with the surface of the storage medium through a lubricant layer. The total of areas of the three pads is equal to or larger than 0.0001 mm.sup.2 and equal to or smaller than 0.02 mm.sup.2 and the height of the pads is equal to or higher than 5 .mu.m and equal to or lower than 100 .mu.m. Two pads of the three pads include tapers formed in the front thereof and are disposed in a forward position in a relative movement direction to the storage medium and one remaining pad is disposed in a backward position. The total of areas of the two pads in the forward position is set to be narrower than an area of the pad in the backward position. A writing and reading function unit is provided in the pad in the backward position.

A magnetic head slider assembly for a magnetic disk type recording/reproducing apparatus includes a slider body, a floating pad provided on the slider body and projecting beyond a disk facing surface thereof, a thin film layer disposed at one end of the slider body, a magnetic head constituted by the thin film layer as an integral part thereof, and a core pad projection incorporating therein a core of the magnetic head and projecting beyond an adjacent disk facing surface of the slider body. The core pad projection is not formed as a continuation of the slider body and is separated from the floating pad a predetermined distance longitudinally of the slider body by a recess interposed therebetween whereby the core pad projection is positioned closer to the magnetic disk than a back end of the floating pad whereby influence of a process offset between the slider body and the magnetic head during fabrication process can be eliminated.

A magnetic head support mechanism comprises a beam portion and a mount for connection to an actuator, which are integrally formed of a ceramic material. The beam portion has a magnetic head supported on a free end side thereof, which magnetic head comprises a magnetic head element and a magnetic head slider. The beam portion has at a part thereof a curved portion which is formed by spontaneous deformation due to internal stress. The integrated magnetic head support mechanism thus provided can be easily handled similarly to a conventional stainless-steel magnetic head support mechanism.

The magnetic disc apparatus incorporates an organic chemical compound capable of suppressing siloxane from being chemically changed to silicon oxide. The organic chemical compound contains at least one of monoalkyl-substituted benzene, dialkyl-substituted benzene, trialkyl-substituted benzene, fatty acid, fatty ester, alkyl ester of aromatic acid, thiazoles and phenols.

Protruding portions are formed on outflow ends of slider rails on a floating magnetic head slider. This floating magnetic head slider is of rails type. Each of the protruding portion extends farther to the outside as it approaches the outflow end. Or the external sides of the rails on the magnetic head slider are so arranged that angles formed thereat diverge from the side of the inflow end to the side of the outflow end, and a pressure adjusting aperture is formed on the outflow side of each of the rails. Because of the above arrangement, it is possible to provide a magnetic head unit in which particles, such as dust, adhering to the disk surface are effectively removed, and in which floating stability is not impaired. Removing the particles on the disk surface is not limited by seeking directions even while the magnetic disk unit is in operation.
