In an image device according to the invention, one end of a panel having a pixel section is extended and an external connection board connected to the extended portion, and first and second integrated circuits, each containing a driving circuit for the panel, are mounted on at least either the extended portion or the external connection board and are arranged one behind the other along a direction directed from the external connection board toward the panel. Input wiring lines for the second integrated circuit mounted nearer to the panel are passed under the first integrated circuit mounted farther from the panel, and are then connected to the second integrated circuit. Alternatively, output wiring lines from the first integrated circuit mounted farther from the panel are routed into the panel by being passed under the integrated circuit mounted nearer to the panel. This serves to greatly reduce the top plan size of the image device because the panel driving integrated circuits and the external connection board can be arranged collectively on one side of the panel.

The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal panel having a drive cell and a correction cell to correct a phase difference, and aims to improve a defect of display which occurs due to existence of a defective area in the vicinity of the inside of the seal member of a drive cell and correction cell. The liquid crystal display device includes the liquid crystal panel having the drive celland the correction cellto correct the phase difference. The liquid crystal panel is structured by being overlapped between the correction celland the drive cellin the form that the defective areaof the inside is overlapped in the vicinity of the seal memberof the drive cell, in the range of the normal areaof the correction. According to this structure, it is possible to avoid overlapping between the defective areas of the drive cell and the correction cell, and to reduce and improve defects in display due to the defective area.

A liquid crystal apparatus with leak current preventing function includes first and second transparent substrates provided opposite to each other; first and second drive electrodes for an image, each formed on an opposite inner surface of the first and second transparent substrates; a sealing member ( ) provided between the first and second transparent substrates for providing a liquid crystal injecting area and forming a gap in order to seal the liquid crystal therebetween; a plurality of conductive particles included dispersedly within the sealing member ( ); a non-pixel electrode formed on position covered by the sealing member between the first and second transparent substrates; a dummy electrode ( D) formed opposite to the non-pixel electrode at the position in which the first and second transparent substrates are covered by the sealing member; and a conductive light-cutting film provided to at least one of inner surface of the first and second transparent substrates for cutting off unnecessary light at a display area and peripheral area thereof; wherein the dummy electrode ( D) is divided by a plurality of slits, and further, a separation slit is provided at the position at which the light-cutting film is superposed on at least sealing member and peripheral portion, to divide the light-cutting film into a plurality of portions.

A connection terminal portion of a substrate and a terminal portion of an external circuit substrate or a terminal portion of a part are electrically connected together using an anisotropic electrically conducting film. A structure in which a first substrate having a connection terminal portion and a second substrate having a connection terminal portion or a connection terminal portion of a part are connected together with an anisotropic electrically conducting adhesive containing electrically conducting particles, wherein the thickness of the electrically conducting film provided for the connection terminal of the first substrate, the second substrate or the part is smaller than the diameter of the electrically conducting particles. The invention is further concerned with a method of accomplishing the electrical connection.
