A field emission device capable of facilitating manufacturing thereof. A cathode substrate is formed on the same plane thereof with gate terminals and cathode electrode each having an end acting as a cathode terminal, on which an insulating layer is arranged. The insulating layer is formed thereon with gate lines 8, which are connected to the gate terminals through a conductive film deposited in contact holes formed during formation of the gate electrodes.

Field emission device and method for manufacturing same

A field emission cathode which is capable of increasing bond strength between emitters and a resitive layer and a method for manufacturing the same which is capable of facilitating manufacturing of the cathode. The field emission cathode includes a laminated board, which includes a substrate, and at least a cathode electrode layer, a resitive layer, an insulating layer and a gate electrode layer which are deposited in the form of a film on the substrate in order. The gate electrode layer and insulating layer are formed with through-holes so as to commonly extend through the gate electrode layer and insulating layer. The cathode also includes buffer layers made of an insulating material and formed on portions of the resistive layer exposed via the through-holes, as well as emitters arranged on the buffer layers, respectively, resulting in bond strength between the resistive layer and the emitters being increased.

Field emission cathode and method for manufacturing same

A getter device capable of being re-activated as required and arranged in a narrow space in an envelope. The getter is arranged in a layer-like manner in an envelope of an electronic element to provide, in the envelope, a film-like getter for keeping an interior of the envelope at a vacuum. Electrons emitted from an electron feed section are impinged on the getter to activate it. The getter activated adsorbs thereon gas in an envelope of an image display device.

Getter, getter device and fluorescent display device

A vacuum airtight envelope capable of being manufactured in bulk and with increased yields. Cathode substrates and anode substrates are prepared by multisubstrate co-formation techniques. A cathode source plate is cut into a plurality of individual cathode substrates, which are mounted on an anode source plate by surface-mounting. Then, getter boxes are temporarily fixed on the anode source plate and then sealedly joined thereto together with cathode substrates. Then, the anode source plate is cut, to thereby provide individual envelopes, which are then evacuated to a vacuum.

Vacuum airtight envelope and method for manufacturing same

A field emission element including a gate and an emitter and capable of penting any of the element oxide layer from being formed on a tip of the emitter to prevent a decrease in emission current, unstable operation and an increase in noise. The gate has a surface formed of a material of oxygen bonding strength higher than that of a material for at least a tip surface of the emitter, so that oxygen atoms and molecules containing oxygen entering the gate may be captured by adsorption on the gate to prevent formation of any oxide layer on the emitter. When a portion of the emitter other than the tip surface is formed of a material of oxygen bonding strength higher than that of the material for the tip surface, formation of any oxide layer on the tip surface of the emitter is minimized.

Field emission element

A field emission type fluorescent display device capable of carrying out luminous display with increased reliability at an anode voltage 200V to 1000V and providing a desired luminous color by means of a filter. The fluorescent display device includes a luminous display section consisting of three display elements. The display elements include filters of red, green and blue colors on which light-permeable anode conductors are deposited, respectively. Then, the anode conductors have phosphors of the same colors as the filters deposited thereon, respectively. The blue phosphor is made of ZnO:Zn substantially containing a blue color component. Thus, a combination of the blue filter and phosphor provides light of a blue color with increased efficiency.

Fluorescent display device with blue filter

A field emission type electron source capable of permitting a resistance value between a cathode wiring and each of emitter cones to be set at substantially the same level and increasing packaging density of the emitter cones. The electron source includes stripe-like cathode wirings arranged on an insulating substrate. The cathode wirings each are formed with a plurality of windows, so that a plurality of island-like cathode conductors and resistance layers different in resistance value from each other are formed separate from the cathode wiring. Then, a resistance layer, an insulating layer and a gate electrode are formed thereon. The gate electrode and insulating layer are formed with apertures in a manner to be common to both, in which the emitter cones are arranged, resulting in emission of electrons from the emitter cones of each group unit being rendered uniform.

Field emission type electron source

Electron excited luminous element capable of ensuring satisfactory emission characteristics of emitters for an extended period of time. A hydrophobic insulating film is formed on a glass anode substrate so as to cover an exposed portion thereof between anode electrodes. This keeps the glass anode substrate from being directly attacked by electrons, to thereby prevent decomposition of water and the like contained in a surface of the glass, resulting in oxygen which causes deterioration in emission characteristics of emitter cones being kept from being released from the glass.

A resistive element is provided which is used on a cathode conductor side of a field emission type fluorescent display device and made of a hydrogenated amorphous silicon film. Nitride is added during deposition of the hydrogenated amorphous silicon film containing an impurity for controlling resistivity of the film. A method for producing the resistive element and an apparatus therefor are also disclosed.

A field emission element including an electrode structure made of a thin film exhibiting increased adhesive strength. A thin film of niobium nitride (NbN) is formed on a glass substrate by sputtering or the like. The NbN film exhibits increased adhesive strength to a degree sufficient to prevent etching for formation of the film into electrodes from causing peeling of the film.

A field emission element features an emitter which has rectangular projections at its distal end capable of readily controlling the interval between electrodes in increments as small as sub-microns, in order to reduce the voltage at which the device starts field emission at the required level and to improve emission uniformity. An emitter (2,20), a collector (3,21) and a gate (5,22) are arranged on a substrate (1), which is formed with a recess (4) in proximity to the electrodes (2,3,20,21) other than the gate (5). The gate (5) is provided in the recess (4).

Field emission element and process for manufacturing same

A flat-type fluorescent display device permitting luminous display to be observed through only a front glass cover while substantially increasing luminance. A front glass cover is provided on an inner surface thereof with FECs constituted by cathode lines, insulating layers, emitters and gate lines so as to define light-permeable sections between FECs. A substrate is formed opposite to the light-permeable sections with anodes constituted by anode-lines and phosphor layers. Electrons emitted from the FECs impinge on the anodes, leading to luminescence of the phosphor layer, which is then observed through the light-permeable sections of the front glass cover.

Flat-type fluorescent display device

A field emission cathode capable of reducing an operation voltage and substantially preventing damage of an emitter. An emitter is provided on a substrate. The emitter includes a base and a plurality of rectangular tips projecting from the base. A gate is arranged in a recess formed on the substrate so as to be in proximity to the emitter. A width a of the tips of the emitter and an interval b between the tips are defined to satisfy a relationship of b/a=2. This permits an electric field strength applied to the tips of the emitter to be substantially increased as compared in a conventional field emission cathode of b/a.ltoreq.1, resulting in an operation voltage being reduced and a sufficient amount of emitter current being produced.

Field emission cathode

A field emission cathode device capable of permitting when short-circuiting occurs between any of emitters and a gate, a block in which the block is formed to be separated from the remaining blocks and preventing a material fused at the time of the short-circuiting from scattering. A cathode conductor arranged on a substrate is formed with a plurality of cutouts, in which resistive layers are arranged. The resistive layers each are provided with terminals through which the resistive layer is connected to the cathode conductor. An insulating layer is arranged so as to cover the resistive layers and cathode conductor and a plurality of emitters are formed on each of the resistive layers. A gate conductor is formed on the insulating layer so as to be positioned around a distal end of each of the conical emitters. Short-circuiting between any of the emitters and the gate conductor causes the terminals to be fused. The insulating layer prevents the fused material from scattering.
