In a network control apparatus which can dynamically control a bandwidth corresponding to a traffic status of a user flexibly, when a whole traffic quantity of a packet passing through the network exceeds a threshold value, per-user-information is analyzed based on a database holding packet information, and a bandwidth control method in conformity with the result of the analysis is selected to perform/release the bandwidth control.

An address-translating connection device which makes it possible to dynamically assign an IP address to a private address when a connection is made to inside of a LAN from outside. When an inquiry made by designating a host name as to a global address of the same is received from the first network, a private address-retrieving device looks up a host-name/private-address correlation storage device to retrieve a private address correlated to the designated host name. When a determining device determines that the address-correlation storage/translation device does not store a global address correlated to the retrieved private address, a storage device extracts an available one of global addresses to correlate the available global address to the retrieved private address, and cause the address-correlation storage/translation device to store therein the addresses correlated to each other. At the same time, a first notifying device sends out into the first network a reply notifying the global address stored.

Address-translating connection device

A terminal system having a video telephone equipment and a computer system. The video telephone equipment includes a communication unit connected to a line; a telephone unit for communicating with a remote station by speech via the communication unit and the line; and a camera unit for taking pictures and outputting video signals corresponding to the pictures. The video signals are transmitted to the remote station via the communication unit and the line. The video telephone equipment further includes a display unit for displaying images; and a processor for controlling the communication unit, the telephone unit, the camera unit and the display unit. The communication unit, the telephone unit, the camera unit, the display unit and the processor unit are coupled to each other by a first bus. The computer system includes a processor, coupled to an external unit by a second bus, for processing data supplied thereto via the second bus. The terminal system includes an interface circuit, coupled to the first and second buses, for intermediating between the video telephone equipment and the computer system so that data is transmitted from the computer system to the video telephone equipment via the interface means and vice versa.
