A bill recognizing and counting apparatus includes an operation unit that receives setting of bill processing modes including a denomination mode, a counting mode, a different-denomination recognition mode, and an authenticity determination mode; a feeding and transporting mechanism; and a control unit that performs control for changing a processing speed according to the bill processing mode. When the bill processing mode is in the counting mode, the different-denomination recognition mode, or the authenticity determination mode, the control unit increases the processing speed by setting the feeding and transporting mechanism to a higher speed than the speed set in the denomination mode. The increase in speed is in accordance with a reduced time necessary to process a reduced amount of data associated with the denomination mode.

A banknote handling apparatus () includes a sorted-banknote stacking device () that sorts and stacks banknotes per denomination and a bundling device () that bundles the banknotes. The sorted-banknote stacking device () includes a feeding unit () that feeds the banknote from the hopper unit (); a transporting unit () that transports the banknote; a denomination recognizing unit (); a plurality of stackers () in which the banknote is sorted and stacked based on a recognition result; and a rejecting unit () that discharges rejected banknotes. The bundling device includes a bundling-object-banknote stacking unit () that stacks banknote of a specific denomination transported by the transporting unit (); and a banknote bundling unit () that bundles the banknotes. The bottom surface of the sorted-banknote stacking unit () is arranged at a higher level than the bottom surface of the bundling device ().

A money handling apparatus includes an operation/display unit to display a money count result, and to display a portion or all of a plurality of various operation keys. The display of operation keys is based on the existence or nonexistence of display, contents of display, display-position information, and one or more conditions of display. A setting unit is configured to set the existence or nonexistence of the display for each operation key, while a control unit calculates the display-position information for each operation key, based on one or more conditions of display stored in the memory unit. The control unit also controls the operation/display unit to display the money count result and to display each operation key that is set to be displayed, in the display position and size that is based on the display-position information for the operation key.

A banknote deposit transaction apparatus () confirms number of deposited banknotes on a per transaction basis. The apparatus includes a bundling-object-banknote stacking unit () that sorts and stacks bundling-object-banknotes among transported banknotes; a bundling-object-banknote counting unit (A) that counts number of bundling-object-banknotes stacked in the bundling-object-banknote stacking unit () as number of unconfirmed deposited banknotes; a banknote bundling unit () that, when the number of stacked bundling-object-banknotes reaches a predetermined number, bundles the bundling-object-banknotes; a tentative confirming unit () that performs a tentative confirmation of the number of unconfirmed deposited banknotes in a current transaction among bundled banknotes at a timing of bundling; and a confirming unit that, upon detecting an operation for ending a transaction, confirms the number of tentatively confirmed and unconfirmed banknotes as a total number of banknotes deposited in the current transaction, and performs recording and management of number of banknotes stacked in the bundling-object-banknote stacking unit () as number of loose banknotes of a previous transaction. This reduces the opportunities of unbundling the bundled banknotes in an operation for fault recovery thereby greatly reducing a work burden of an operator.

A banknote depositing machine has a receiving unit which takes in inserted banknotes, a stacking unit which stacks said banknotes, a transporting unit which transports the banknotes between said receiving unit and said stacking unit, a recognition unit which is provided in said transporting unit, and identifies and counts the banknotes, a storing unit which receives the banknotes from said stacking unit and stores the banknotes, and a controlling unit which, if said recognition unit has judged a banknote as abnormal, stops said transporting unit.

A bill recognizing and counting apparatus includes a feeding and transporting mechanism; a line sensor to scan an image of the bills; a denomination determination table in which denomination recognition data is registered for at least one currency; a denomination recognizing unit that recognizes a denomination of the currency by referring to the table; a processing-mode switching unit that switches between a denomination mode and a different currency recognition mode; a different-currency recognizing unit that compares a difference in size between a first bill and each bill of a second bill and thereafter with an allowable range, and recognizes whether the each bill of the second bill and thereafter is of the same denomination as the first bill; and a control unit that guides the bill being determined as a different denomination to a rejecting unit or stops the feeding and transporting mechanism.
