A plurality of spaced blood serum samples are disposed on a serum-bearing film having a leading and trailing edge. The blood serum samples are disposed in an array and each blood serum sample has a leading and a trailing edge. A position-indicating mark is disposed forward of the leading edge of the sample closest to the leading edge of the film by a distance representative of the spacing between adjacent ones of the samples.

An apparatus for automatic application of blood serum to a serum bearing film for use in a cataphoretic process includes a serum supply station, a serum application station, a rinsing station and a drip station. The apparatus also comprises a guide along which a serum applicator is sequentially moved through each of these stations, as well as operation controlling microswitches and a cam assembly.

An apparatus for automatic quantitative analysis of specimens of a blood serum by a cataphoretic process comprises a supply of a clearing liquid which is supplied to a film on which a plurality of specimens are disposed at a constant pitch, light source means for projecting light onto the film which has been made clear by the application of the clearing liquid thereto, measuring means including a photoelectric transducer element which receives and determines the light which has transmitted through the film, feed means for intermittently feeding the film so as to locate it at a measuring port which is positioned between the light source means and the photoelectric transducer element, and scan drive means for displacing the light source means and the photoelectric transducer means crosswise of the film to scan a particular one of the specimens which is positioned at the measuring port each time the film comes to a stop. In this manner, the film carrying the specimens is made clear by the clearing liquid, and a quantitative analysis is made by scanning the individual specimens by the photoelectric transducer element in the course of the intermittent feed of the film, all in an automatic manner.

An apparatus for adjusting the light source position of a light source assembly comprises a lamp socket for mounting a lamp at an eccentric position thereon, and a sleeve secured to a lamp housing for mounting the lamp socket so as to be slidable along the axis and rotatable about the axis of the sleeve. By axially sliding the lamp socket relative to the sleeve or by rotating the lamp socket about the axis, the position of the lamp can be optimally adjusted relative to a condenser which is mounted on the lamp housing.

An arrangement for detachably mounting an examining member onto a microscope comprises a horizontally extending dovetail key on the examining member, and a horizontally extending dovetail groove formed in the body of the microscope. The dovetail connection permits the examining member to be mounted in place through its horizontal movement, thereby facilitating its mounting and removal.
