A setup apparatus constructed separately from an image scanning and recording apparatus. Light from a document is received by a pickup lens disposed above the document, and is branched by suitable optics. One of the branched incident beams is projected to a focusing screen disposed adjacent the pickup lens for displaying an erect image of a setup position. The other beam is passed through an aperture disposed at an optically equivalent position to the focusing screen, from which density level of the setup position is measured for display on a density indicator.

Image processing condition setting apparatus

A rotary suction drum provided with a number of pores in the drum surface has its inside space divided into multiple sections by partitions, communicating at least one of the drum sections with a source of suction through a duct, the sections also being in communication with each other through apertures provided in the partitions. Valves are provided at the partition apertures for covering the apertures under centrifugal action when the rotary drum is rotated, the covering valve elements being located adjacent to the respective apertures.

Rotary suction drum

A drum type image scanning and recording apparatus, with a drum around whose cylindrical external surface a film is fixedly wrapped and a drum-driving apparatus mechanically coupled to the drum for rotating the drum, has a string tensionally stretched nearby and along the external surface of the drum in parallel with the drum axis by a string stretching device. A swing detecting device detects the swing of the string produced when part of the film and the string are in contact with each other, as when the drum is rotating and the film separates away from the drum external surface. The rotation of the drum is stopped in response to an abnormality detection signal from the swing detecting device, thus precluding significant physical separation of the film from the drum.

Drum type image scanning and recording apparatus

A pattern shaped and sized to fit adjacent the inner cylindrical surface of a transparent scanner drum, of a drum-type image scanning system is oriented to display at least one line parallel to the axis of rotation of the drum. The pattern preferably has other lines oriented to other predetermined directions. The pattern is held in place inside the drum by a coaxial lighted cylindrical pattern holder rotatable with the drum. The user aligns the original with reference to the lighted pattern for affixation as desired on the drum surface for scanning of the original image therefrom.

Apparatus and method for precisely orienting originals on an image

Disclosed is an improved transmission illumination device for use in a picture scanning device such as an electronic picture scanner which can illuminate an annular region around an illuminated spot. This annular illuminated spot is produced by using an annular convex lens as part of an optical system. Since the area surrounding the illuminated spot is also illuminated, finding a desired spot on an original picture is greatly facilitated. Having an illuminated annular region does not create any problem which may arise from flare light if an iris diaphragm is provided in a light receiving head for the exclusion of the light emitted from the illuminated annular area.
