An extracellular potential measurement device includes multiple insulating films each of which is made from an electric insulating material, the insulating films being stacked and bonded to each other; and multiple electrode wires each of which is made from an electroconductive material, the electrode wires being arranged in multiple heights. Each of the electrode wires is interposed between an upper insulating film and a lower insulating film. Each of the insulating films, except for a lowermost insulating film, has an opening penetrating the insulating film. The opening in a lower insulating film has a size that is less than that of the opening in an upper insulating film, the openings in the insulating films being overlapped to form a recess having a size reducing downward, the recess being adapted to store a collection of cells. Each of the electrode wires has an end that is located near an opening in an insulating film that is immediately below the electrode wire, the ends being exposed in the recess.

Extracellular potential measurement device

A cell capture apparatus includes a cell separation unit having a flat plate shape and a cell capture unit having a flat plate shape located therebelow. A liquid sample and a carrier liquid flow in a cell-separation flow passage of the cell separation unit. The liquid sample contains multiple large cells, multiple small cells, and a sample liquid component. The cell-separation flow passage separates a set of large cells and the carrier liquid from a set of small cells and the sample liquid component. The cell capture unit includes a large-cell flow passage in which the set of large cells and the carrier liquid flows, and multiple electrode wires for attracting the large cells by means of dielectrophoresis. Multiple cell capturing wells are formed in the large-cell flow passage. Each of the multiple cell capturing wells has a size that can capture one of the large cells attracted by the electrode wires.

An object is to provide a method of eliminating background amplification in detection of rare nucleic acids based on isothermal amplification. The method comprising steps of: preparing a mixture including solution and enzymes, and adding a first and a second template into the mixture, wherein the first template is an amplification template, and the second template is a leak absorption template. Methods to use this approach for multiplexed, ultrasensitive and ultra-specific detection of nucleic acids are presented.

Provided are a fluorescent testing system, a dielectrophoresis device, and a molecular testing method that measure only fluorescence emitted from a test object without separating excitation light and the fluorescence by an optical filter and that are able to prevent reduction of an application range of a type of the fluorescence. A fluorescent testing system () includes: an excitation light source () that radiates excitation light (L) to a test object (M) flowing in a microfluidic channel (); a silicon integrated circuit () provided with a photon detection unit () that detects light by a photodiode (); a dielectrophoresis electrode pair () that generates an electric field (EF) to draw the test object (M) onto the photodiode () by dielectrophoresis; and a control unit () that causes the excitation light source () to radiate the excitation light (L) to the test object (M) that is drawn and causes the photon detection unit (), after extinguishment of the excitation light (L), to detect fluorescence (L) emitted from the test object (M).

An object is to provide a neuron cultivation device which promptly develops bundles of axons extending from neurons in vitro. A device for cultivating neuron with axon, the device comprising a cultivation plate and a plurality of modules arranged in the cultivation plate. Each of the modules includes at least one of first chambers receivable of cell bodies of neurons at least one of second chambers, and at least one of channels receivable of a bundle of axon extended from the cell bodies. The channels connect the first chambers and the second chambers. Bottom ends of the first chambers, the second chambers and the channels are closed and top ends of the first chambers and the second chambers are open.

Specimen support and scanning probe microscope

Provided is: a cell culture membrane, which is free from materials derived from living organisms, can easily be industrially mass-produced, exhibits superior long-term storage properties and chemical resistance, has excellent cell adhesion properties and long-term culture properties and is capable of replicating a cell adhesion morphology that is similar to that of collagen derived from living organisms and being used for conventional cell cultivation. A method for culturing hepatocytes, wherein hepatocytes embedded in an extracellular matrix is placed on a gas-permeable membrane and the hepatocytes are cultured while being supplied with oxygen from the gas-permeable membrane side. By this, the polarity in the hepatocytes can be induced and a bile canaliculus can be formed in a short period of time. Further, the formed polarity can be maintained for a longer period.

The invention is directed to methods for the propagation or cultivation of cells including preparing a cell culture substrate, wherein the cell culture substrate includes a substrate and a layer formed by surface modification. The layer includes a polymer containing an amino group.
