An insulation displacement contact includes a pair of insulation displacement blades and a pair of resilient contact pieces. The pair of insulation displacement blades are opposite to each other with their bases connected to each other such that there is formed, by their inner sides, a slot for receiving an insulated wire of which core wire portion is covered with an insulation. The pair of insulation displacement blades are arranged such that when the insulated wire is inserted into the slot, the insulation is cut and the core wire portion comes in press-contact with the insulation displacement blades. Each of the pair of resilient contact pieces is made of a plate member which is connected to the outer side of each insulation displacement blade, which extends toward the side opposite of the inlet of the slot up to a position exceeding the base of each insulation displacement blade, which has a contact portion for holding or nipping a mating contact at a position opposite of the slot inlet with respect to the base of each insulation displacement blade, and which has, between the connection portion connected to the outer side of each insulation displacement blade and the contact portion, a tapering portion of which width is gradually narrowed in the direction toward the contact portion.

Insulation displacement contact and electric connector using the same

An electric connector having a housing in which there are disposed, side by side, a plurality of wire holding portions for holding the insulations of insulated wires. Each wire holding portion has: a pair of wire holding pieces disposed as facing each other to form a wire holding groove; and wire hold-down pieces not only for guiding, in the vertical direction, the insertion of the insulated wire into the wire holding groove, but also for preventing the insulated wire from coming off from the wire holding groove. The plurality of wire holding portions has: a first wire holding portion having wire hold-down pieces at a first wire hold-down position; and a second wire holding portion disposed adjacent to the first wire holding portion, and having wire hold-down pieces at a second wire hold-down position different from the first wire hold-down position.

Electric connector

An electrical connector comprises first and second connectors connectable to each other in a predetermined connecting direction. The first connector comprises a housing, a plurality of contacts supported by the housing, and a metal reinforcement member fixed to the housing. The reinforcement member is engageable with an engagement groove of the second connector. The reinforcement member includes a pair of engagement projections. The first and second connectors are permitted to be offset from each other in a direction intersecting the connecting direction and guided with respect to each other for connection thereof when the engagement projections are introduced into the engagement groove.

Electrical connector

A receptacle type intermediate connector has an insulated body with a forward end opening for reception of a mating connector, and contacts fixed in the body and each having at its end a finger for engaging a foreign contact held in the mating connector. Each contact has at its other end a leg adjoined to one electric wire in a signal transmission cable. A metallic shield composed of covers encloses the body the contact legs and wires' bare ends, and has a collar portion gripping a shielding layer of the cable. The connector has an insulated housing and covering the metallic shield disposed in the housing. The forward region of first metallic cover of the shield is formed as a squarely-cylindrical portion This portion protrudes ahead the end opening so that the connector will meet requirements prescribed in the IEEE standards for high-frequency transmission apparatuses, and the end opening for the mating connector has an improved shielding property.

Receptacle type intermediate connector

An angle type plug connector has an insulated body for insertion into a mating connector, and contacts fixed in the insulated body and each having at its one end a finger for contact with a foreign contact held in the mating connector, each contact having at its other end a leg adjoined to one electric wire in a signal transmission cable The connector also has an angle type shield consisting of a pair of first and second metallic covers, the first cover enclosing outer portions of the insulated body and the second cover enclosing the contacts' legs and the wires' bare end portions, so that the second cover extends at a right angle relative to the first cover. An insulated housing encloses the shield such that the insulated body and the cable protrude from the housing and at a right angle to each other, and the housing is split up into a first and second halves and so that these halves extend along a plane that includes the axis of the insulated body and the central line of the cable, the split halves having faces fitted one on another. Retention grooves formed in these faces secure in them guard lugs of the insulated body, and each half and has three side walls around the shield and three interlocking portions formed in and along the side walls, so that a narrower space will suffice in putting the connector in and out of the mating connector so as to increase freedom of handling the cables and match it to various surroundings, rendering it more resistant to a distorting or withdrawing stress imparted to the cable.

A compact electrical connector having a reduced packaging or mounting area includes a housing in which a receptor cavity for receiving a counterpart connector is concavely formed, and contacts fixed in the housing. Each contact includes a contact body that extends in the plug-in direction in which the counterpart connector is received or plugged into the receptor cavity of the housing, and a contact leg that extends outwardly on the base side of the housing. The housing is provided with a slit or slits through side walls thereof to expose the contact bodies to the outside. Thereby the contacts are deflectable. The slits also partially or entirely separate upper and lower portions of the housing from each other, so that the upper housing portion may easily be deflected laterally or rotationally relative to the lower housing portion. Thereby a misalignment-compensating function is achieved.
