A disk-enclosure base that is configured to inhibit formation of adherent solder-flux residue. The disk-enclosure base includes a casting, a through-hole fabricated in the casting, a solder channel, an E-coat layer, and an E-coat-free zone. The E-coat layer is applied to a first portion of an interior surface of the casting. The E-coat-free zone is adjacent to and surrounds the solder channel. The E-coat-free zone also includes a second portion of the interior surface of the casting lying between the solder channel and the E-coated first portion of the interior surface of the casting. The E-coat-free zone is configured to inhibit formation of adherent solder-flux residue. A disk-enclosure-base/electrical-feedthrough assembly that is configured to inhibit formation of adherent solder-flux residue, and a hard-disk drive (HDD) including the disk-enclosure-base/electrical-feedthrough assembly are also provided.

Embodiments of the present invention help to achieve a solder joining structure having high reliability, in which even if a componential material of a flange of a feed-through of a sealed magnetic disk drive is an iron-based material such as Kovar&#x2122;, and a componential material of a base of the drive is an aluminum-based alloy, leakage of low-density gas is dramatically reduced. According to one embodiment, a base has a stepped portion in the inside of a periphery of an opening, and an inclined surface extending to the outside of the base is formed at an edge of a surface of the stepped portion, on which a flange of a feed-through is placed, thereby when the stepped portion of the base is joined by soldering with the flange of the feed-through, a solder fillet is formed not only in the inside of the base, but also in the outside thereof.

For cushioning a shock to prevent problems such as a reading error, a ramp for a magnetic disc apparatus is made of a resin material for forming a ramp main body and a material having higher rigidity than the resin material, disc facing surfaces in the disc insertion portion for inserting a magnetic disc is provided with disc contact portions made of the high rigidity material, a bottom surface portion of a concave portion of the disc insertion portion is constructed by a combination of a bottom surface portion made of the resin material and a bottom surface portion made of the high rigidity material, and a step structure is provided by arranging the bottom surface portion made of the high rigidity material at a position moved rearward in a depth direction of the concave portion in comparison with the bottom surface portion made of the resin material.

To efficiently manufacture a feedthrough used in a disk drive device having a hermetically sealed enclosure, embodiments of the present invention manufacture a feedthrough used in an HDD having a hermetically sealed enclosure. An embodiment of a manufacturing method of the present embodiment manufactures a columnar body, cuts the columnar body in the direction vertical to the axes of pins, and cuts out a feedthrough. Then, necessary plating is made on the outer surfaces of the cut out feedthrough. The columnar body comprises a hollow tube, a plurality of pins inserted inside the tube, and an insulating sealant filled inside the tube. This manufacturing method achieves efficient manufacture of the feedthrough.

Embodiments of the present invention help to provide a sealed hard disk drive (HDD) with high reliability. According to one embodiment, a HDD is a hermetically sealed HDD. A base has an opening of a through-hole on its bottom; a feedthrough is provided so as to close the opening. A flange of the feedthrough has a larger outline than the opening, and its rim is joined to the base with solder at the solder joint. The solder at the solder joint is mainly composed of Sn and contains 15 atomic percent to 27 atomic percent of indium. This solder reaches the &#x3b3; phase from &#x2212;150&#xb0; C. to 120&#xb0; C. Accordingly, even if the HDD has been exposed at low temperature for a long time, the solder joint is not broken so that helium gas does not leak.

Embodiments in accordance with the present invention improve bonding reliability in a feedthrough sealing portion. According to one embodiment of the present invention, an opening of a through hole is provided on the bottom of the base of the magnetic disk device and a feedthrough mounting plane which is one of the steps formed toward the outside of the device is provided around the opening. The feedthrough includes a flange and pins which are fixed to the flange by a glass material and pass an electric signal. The flange is larger in outer shape than the opening of the base. The periphery of the flange of the feedthrough is mounted on the feedthrough mounting plane of the base from the outside and bonded thereto by solder.

In a disk drive device in which low-density gas is sealed, embodiments of the present invention help to improve joint reliability at a solder joint section between a feedthrough and an enclosure with respect to stress applied by deformation due to changes in temperature environment in use. According to one embodiment, helium gas is sealed in an interior space of an HDD. A feedthrough is solder jointed to a feedthrough mounting surface of a base. At a part with relatively large thermal stress, a width of the feedthrough mounting surface is increased, and at a part with relatively small thermal stress, a width of the feedthrough mounting surface is decreased. This prevents a crack penetrating path from being generated at the solder joint section due to the thermal stress and prevents the solder joint section from contacting pins.

Embodiments of the invention make high-speed rotation of a magnetic disk, suppression of an increase in electric power consumption, and suppression in shaft falling vibration compatible together in a magnetic disk device. In one embodiment, a magnetic disk device comprises a magnetic disk that records information, and a drive unit that rotates the magnetic disk about a shaft. The drive unit comprises a rotary section that holds the magnetic disk, and a stationary section that supports the rotary section through a fluid bearing. The fluid bearing comprises a radial fluid bearing that bears a load in a direction perpendicular to an axial direction, and a thrust fluid bearing that bears a load in the axial direction. The thrust fluid bearing comprises a first thrust fluid bearing having a small diameter and a shallow clearance, and a second thrust fluid bearing positioned outside an outer periphery of a shaft and being larger in diameter and deeper in clearance than the first thrust fluid bearing.

In a disk device, having disksand a hubfor holding thereof, to be attached onto a shaftof a spindle motor, for rotary drive thereof, a grooveis formed on a bottom surface of a flange portionof the hub, for receiving therein. A balance weightto be received in this groovehas elasticity and an outer configuration of about 'C', and further, in a portion thereof is attached at least one (1) piece of an auxiliary weight or more, thereby achieving unbalance correction at high accuracy with an aid of the balance weight. After being attached with one (1) piece or more of the 'U' shaped auxiliary weight(s) directing it/them from an inner periphery to an outer periphery thereof, the &#x201c;C&#x201d; shaped balance weight is inserted or fitted into, while being suppressed a little bit in an inside thereof. Therefore, a disk device and the unbalance correcting method for that, can be obtained, in which spaces necessary for attaching and detaching are less, but enabling the balance correction at high accuracy.
