A removal determination device that accurately determines a removal of an exhaust gas purification device from an exhaust pipe. The removal determination device comprises: an input temperature sensor detecting a temperature at an upstream side of casing; an output temperature sensor detecting a temperature at a downstream side of the casing; an engine stop time collector measuring a time period from an inactivation of an engine to a startup of the engine; and a determiner determining a presence of the exhaust gas purifying device based on the input temperature and the output temperature, in a case that the time period is equal to or longer than a predetermined time.

A controller is provided for an engine comprising urea-SCR catalyst, a urea-water supply section, a low pressure gas recirculating section including a low pressure EGR pipe forming a low pressure EGR passage and a low pressure EGR valve. The controller controls an amount of a fuel supplied to the engine, and an opening degree of the low pressure EGR valve. In an NOdischarge quantity estimation method for an internal combustion engine equipped with an EGR apparatus, the gas components (e.g., oxygen molecules and NO) of intake gas taken into a combustion chamber are assumed to be uniformly distributed throughout the entire region of the combustion chamber. Under such assumption, the combustion chamber is divided into a combustion region (region B) and a non-combustion region (region A) by making use of the ratio of the 'mass of oxygen consumed as a result of combustion' to the 'total mass of oxygen taken in the combustion chamber.'
