To provide a film for optical element made of liquid crystal polymer whose productivity and economical efficiency are improved; a laminated sheet formed by bonding this film to a polarizing plate; and an optical element which can be optically inspected, and used under an environment of high temperature and high moisutre, and whose surface hardness is so high that the surface is not easily damaged. A long laminated sheet for optical element comprising a liquid crystal polymer layer, and a polarizing film layer; and a long laminated sheet for optical element comprising at least a liquid crystal polymer film layer oriented in the direction oblique to the MD direction at a given angle, and a polarizing film layer. A compensator for a liquid crystal display device is made by applying a solution containing a liquid crystalline polymer onto an orientation substrate, then allowing the liquid crystalline polymer to be oriented, and thereafter transferring the resulting layer of the liquid crystalline polymer on the orientation substrate onto a light transmitting substrate, said solution containing the liquid crystalline polymer having incorporated therein 0.01% to 10% by weight of a surface active agent relative to the liquid crystalline polymer.

Method of making compensator for liquid crystal display

A random copolymer comprises recurring units each having the formula of; ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 to R.sup.10 stand for a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group with or without R.sup.5 being bonded to R.sup.6 or R.sup.10 via an alkylene group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms. The random copolymer contains 50 to 90 mol % of ethylene. The random copolymer has an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.] of 0.3 to 10 dl/g measured in Decalin.RTM., i.e., decahydronphthalene at 30.degree. C.

Random copolymer containing derivative of bicyclo [2.2.1] hept-2-ene

A process involves preparing an aqueous solution of a diolefin-maleic anhydride copolymer prepared by solution polymerization, said aqueous solution being free of tetramethylsuccinonitrile (TMSN), a by-product resulting from the decomposition of azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) used as a polymerization initiator for the copolymerization of the diolefin-maleic anhydride copolymer. The aqueous solution free of TMNS is obtained without the separation of the copolymer from the polymerization liquid in which the copolymer was prepared. The process is composed of the two distillation steps, the first distillation being for the removal of a solvent for polymerization and the second distillation being for the removal of water as well as TMSN. The first and second distillation steps can be carried out in a continuous or discontinuous manner. The first distillation step is carried out after and/or during the addition of water or a basic aqueous solution, and the second distillation can be effected with or without the addition of such liquid. This process is particularly effective for removal of TMSN which is highly toxic and causes problems from the safety point of view.

According to this invention, there is provided an anti-migration agent for dyeing comprising a water-soluble, neutral polymer salt of a polymer anion and at least one cation, said polymer anion being a copolymer or a partially esterified matter thereof, said copolymer consisting of at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of C.sub.4 of C.sub.7 conjugated diene and isobutylene and at least one member selected from the group consisting of maleic acid, maleic anhydride and derivatives thereof, and said cation being selected from the group consisting of Na.sup.+, K.sup.+, Li.sup.+ and ammonium ions represented by the general formula R.sub.1 R.sub.2 R.sub.3 R.sub.4 N.sup.+ wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl, cycloalkyl and phenyl.

Anti-migration agent for dyeing

A phase-reversible composition is disclosed, which is liquid at a low temperature and solid at a high temperature, the phase being reversible. The composition includes a conjugated diene-maleic acid derivative copolymer having a sulfur containing organic terminal radical of from 4 to 30 carbon atoms, which radical contributes to increased surface-activity and compatibility of the final composition.
