An information handling system (IHS) and a method for a host application to access and verify contents within all non-volatile storage of the IHS. The method utilizes an access controller that has access to non-volatile storage which cannot be directly accessed from a host operating system. The access controller, upon receiving a request from the host application to view contents in a non-volatile storage that is not accessible to the host application, copies the contents of the un-accessible non-volatile storage to a storage medium communicatively coupled to the access controller. The access controller then presents the storage medium as a virtual storage device to the host application, enabling the host application to access the copied contents of the un-accessible non-volatile storage.

A system, method, and computer-readable medium are disclosed for a boot mapping system. More specifically, in certain embodiments, BIOS of an information handling system includes a boot mapping system which allows the information handling system to boot up regardless of a boot order change in a network mode of operation or a BIOS boot order change. Systems and methods are provided that may be implemented to deliver firmware for pre-boot updates of targeted information handling system device/devices using custom update capsules (e.g., such as custom unified extensible firmware interface capsules) and a separately-stored firmware update package that is remotely or locally stored. The custom update capsules may contain instruction payload information that may be used to determine location and desired components of the separately-stored firmware update package, and that also may be used to determine whether existing driver/drivers are to be retained in a firmware module in system memory or to be unloaded and replaced with a new (e.g., upgraded or downgraded) driver version in a firmware module in system memory as part of the firmware update.

Firmware updates at an information handling system flash memory device, such as provisioning information stored on a USB device, are securely performed by using a buffer memory and a secured code. An application running on a CPU generates a firmware update and a security code, such as a ciphered hash code based on the firmware update, stores the firmware update and security code in a buffer, and informs a management processor of the update. The management processor analyzes the firmware update to authorize copying of the update from the buffer to the flash memory device. For instance, the management processor creates the security code from the firmware update and compares the created code with the security code stored in the buffer to validate the firmware update.

A method for automated installation of software packages in a computer system includes loading an operating system onto the computer system. Lastly, the windows-based install of the at least one prescribed software package is initiated in response to the hook, the windows-based install being carried out according to the corresponding software package installer.
