A method for more effectively recording information in system logs is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method includes detecting errors on a system such as a host system or storage system over a specified period of time. The method stores information associated with the errors in a memory buffer. The method further preprocesses the information in the memory buffer to condense the information and remove duplication. In certain embodiments, this preprocessing includes grouping errors by error type and providing a single stack trace or other information per error type. The method then outputs the preprocessed information to a log file. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.

Dynamic system log preprocessing

A determination is made of values for measures that affect processing of data in a computing environment comprising a client communicatively coupled to a server, wherein the measures include data factors, client factors, and server factors. A determination is made as to whether a load on the client is greater than the load on the server by calculating a load on the client and a load on the server based on the data factors, the client factors and the server factors, and then comparing the load on the client to the load on the server. In response to determining that the load on the client is greater than the load on the server, the data is stored at a location in the server, and an indication is made in a data structure in the client of a pointer to the location in the server.

A system and method to allow an author of an instant message to enable and control the production of audible speech to the recipient of the message. The voice of the author of the message is characterized into parameters compatible with a formative or articulative text-to-speech engine such that upon receipt, the receiving client device can generate audible speech signals from the message text according to the characterization of the author's voice. Alternatively, the author can store samples of his or her actual voice in a server so that, upon transmission of a message by the author to a recipient, the server extracts the samples needed only to synthesize the words in the text message, and delivers those to the receiving client device so that they are used by a client-side concatenative text-to-speech engine to generate audible speech signals having a close likeness to the actual voice of the author.

A method and data processing system for managing security certificates in a data processing environment is disclosed. A computer identifies a security certificate associated with a management interface of a device in the data processing environment. The computer determines whether the security certificate was issued by a certificate authority that is trusted. In response to determining that the security certificate was not issued by the certificate authority, the computer identifies the security certificate as invalid. Subsequent to identifying the security certificate as invalid, the computer determines if a service exists in the data processing environment that includes a feature for sending information about critical events associated with the data processing environment. Responsive to determining that the service with the feature exists in the data processing environment, the computer generates a certificate-signing request for the management interface of the device and sends the certificate-signing request via the feature in the service.
